I disagree that most Texans don't have accents, even though when I lived out of state, nearly everyone complained that I didn't have the expected accent. Maybe in some cities it isn't as prevalent as the country, but if you grew up here you pretty much know how to talk it at some point or other. i.e., just get any Texan drunk to hear the drawl....;-)

Every region of the country has an accent. You just don't notice it cause you're from there.
And even the "Southern" accent itself has distinct subsets. Someone from Texas doesn't necessarily sound like someone from the Carolinas. It takes a little more effort to figure out than the difference between a Tex-AND and a Neu YAWK-er, however.

Because we have to be yodles to them i guess. i was born and raised in Houston and I didnt think i had an accent. I am now in WA and my accent doesnt come out until i say certain words like "oil, ya'll..etc" I am hispanic so that may be the reason i dont have a thick accent.

Ya think................ I'm from the south, born and raised. Traveled through Texas once from San Antionio, to Houston, to Dallas and then on to Georgia. Never heard such slow, drawled words as sopken in Texas in all my life. Especially in a place called Orange Tx.

because movies love to play up to stereotypes so you can easily identify the character.
it is the same reason you mainly hear english people with well-spoken "middle english" or London accents in films.
