Don't pay anyone to lose weight. This is what you need to do.
1. Lift Weights - muscle burns calories and
gives you tone.
2. Track Calories...sort of- You don't need to track calories like an owl. But if you center every meal around ... lets say 300 calories. You can safely eat 5 meals a day.
3. Eat 5-6 meals a day- Keep your body burning fat all the time. When you don't eat, your body turns off and burns less calories. If you eat all the time then you are always burning fat.
4. Eat less sugar- low calorie diets are high in sugar and bad carbs. Eat less than 100 carbs a day (don't count fiber!) and the fat will melt off. Remember don't have more than 20 percent of your calories come from fat. 1 fat gram is 9 calories. 1 protein and 1 carb gram are 4 calories. So on a 1500 calorie diet. You should not be eating over 34grams of fat.
5. Do cardio 5-6 days a week- remember cardio after weight lifting.
6. Drink a lot of water. 1/2 gallon a day
Hope that helps.

Go see your doctor first. Tell him/her you want to start exercising. Start eating a healthy balanced diet (see USA or Canada food guide). Start walking to work or the dog at night; if you can find a friend that has similar goals do it together, the motivation is priceless. Find a fitness facility close to your work or home. Somewhere that you can work it into your daily routine. Find a qualified personal trainer, and in coordination with your doc get a 2-3 day a week program set up (keep eating healthy). Make sure to change up your fitness routine every 4-6 weeks. That walk you were doing is above and beyond the cardio you do in the gym. Don’t cop out and say “I’m gonna skip the treadmill tonight and just take the dog for a walk”. DO NOT go on any fad diets, use pills ect. Any weight you loose while doing these you will gain what you lost plus half back when you stop (on average) That is why they are called fad diets or yo-yo diets. Don’t try to do this all at once. Set ONE goal every month. This allows time for each to work its way into your life and routine, and when it does it will stick. So in summary eat healthy, exercise and set small attainable goals. And most importantly talk to the professionals and get a good personalized program for YOURSELF. You are not everyone else.

Do a juice fast. Drink at least one gallon of fresh fruit and vegetable juice (made with your own juice extractor) every day. You'll lose weight without having to deprive yourself of the nutrients your body needs. Not only is this the fastest and safest way to lose weight, but most if not all of your illnesses and ill-behaviors will disappear!!! Another great thing about juice fasting is that you won't be hungry and your energy level will skyrocket! Speaking from both personal and professional experience, I know that if you do a juice fast, you are in for a treat!!!

What?! You don't sound fat to me. Well, anyway if you don't change your eating habits, your weight loss is going to continue to be slow (which is not necessarily bad). It sounds like you are happy doing what you are doing. It sounds like you are loosing weight in a healthy manner. You don't want to loose too much too fast. You should gage your "fatness" on how you look to yourself in the mirror instead of a number of pounds. We all know that muscle weighs more than fat and that you could be loosing fat and gaining muscle, hence the reason for your measly weight loss of only 4 pounds. Stop looking at that scale! Stay off it, and leave it alone.

Thats great that you lost some weight. Keep working out and watch your sugar intake and that should help you. There is alot of sugar in foods that you would not normally think would have sugar. I would say read your food lables. And watch how much you eat of the bad carbs. I hope this help you. Good luck on your weight loss goal.

i am also 40 and 5'3". i feel your pain. i work out every morning, i walk most nights and try to eat careful, limit fats, sugars and no junk food. i never eat after dinner. i can't lose weight!
our age plays a big factor.
my doctor told me that when you turn forty you get the five F's, that is Female,Forty, Fat. Flatulent, Fair(skin),. our gall bladders start to have problems therefore our liver can't breakdown that fat we eat. our metabolism slows. it is just harder to lose weight now but please don't give up.
if you would like you can e-mail me and we can help each other through this time because menopause is starting to hit also. karenallmond@yahoo.com

i used to have difficulty loosing weight before. i tried exercising & dieting but nothing seems to work until i came across this book " Fit For Life". It talks about how our body digests what we eat and it helped me understand the system. and to conclude it, we eat by food groups so that our digestive enzymes dont neutralize eachother so digestion becomes faster and our body does not absorb the fats we eat. this way, we also do not deprive ourselves of what we love to eat. we just cant eat them all at the same time if they do not belong to the same food group. get a hold of the book and try it. it has worked for me and my friends.
