It is just the government having more control of your life and you wait in line for up to a year to have a tooth pulled.
If you think socialized healthcare is so wondeful, just ask a Canadian their thoughts.

How do poor people get better healthcare?
Simple, get a federal loan go back to school to get a job that offers benefits. Quit looking for handouts and do something for yourself.

I am Canadian - I booked an apointment with my dentist last week and will see her next Tuesday. By the way, Dentists are not covered under Canadian Health Care - never have been, unless it is as a result of an accident, a workplace injury, you are on social assistance, or you have a disability.
My son was born premature - 2 1/2 months - I did not have to wait for care - he is a healthy and educated 20 year old - and I did not receive a bill for one cent even though i do not have an insurance policy. My doctor told me that in the US, he was a "million dollar" baby.
My brother required knee replacement surgery - every step of that process, from pre-op apointments with the best specialists (of his choice I might add - no one tells us who to see) through home care to perform rehab after surgery was completed within 3 months of the first visit and did not cost us one penny - with or without insurance.
I had Leukemia (chronic myleogenous) and chose to go to whatever doctor and hospital I wanted, free of charge, in whatever city in Ontario had the shortest wait time - all free of charge, including the cost of gas or airfare if necessary to get to the appointments.
I haven't had to wait 2 months, let alone a year, at all - although it does happen and it is not good when it does. I also don't have to fork out one single penny to be seen by the best heart/lung/cancer specialist in the country, they are accessible to everyone regardless of income.
I have a step-sister in LA - she relies on Medicare - she says it is appalling in the US if you don't have private insurance -it's kind of hard to describe what is wrong to the clinic doctor, who didn't speak english, after a 7 hour clinic wait! Even if you have insurance , you probably have an HMO - a group of non-professionals with little or no medical training who are deciding who you can see, what they will treat, and which hospital you can go to.
You're trying to tell me that is better??

Wow Mav thank you. A Canadians actual view of the health system in their country instead of all the propaganda that we usually hear. I am a Democrat and you know what? We need healthcare in this country. This privatization with Medicare( secondary ins) is so difficult for anyone, let alone a senior, to understand. The Republicans are not only giving away the horse they are also giving away the barn and the farm. Government interference in things that SHOULD be private, is not the same as a healthcare program that will cover all citizens. And I am so glad that a Canadian did give you their thoughts. Just killed your argument!!!

there are two issues with me:
1. Medical insurance is insane and has went up by 5-10 percent annually for the past 6 years... if it continues to increase, no one will be able to afford it... and more and more people have to drop it as it goes up, which ends up increasing the cost even more, since they default on medical bills when they do have to go get health care in emergency situations...
if you don't have insurance, you may as well sign the bankruptcy paperwork right there in the emergency room...
2. I support a two-tiered system... much like our educational system... there are public and private schools... you can go to the private school for a better education if you can afford it... why don't we do the same with medicine... public facilities and better private facilities... that way the best doctors will still be rewarded with more pay at the private facilities, but the poor will be able to get some degree of medical care, even if they have to wait, if they need to see a doctor, without going into debt for more than they will make in the next ten years...
Costs are just out of control... and odds are, unless your rich, you know someone who is poor and sick that has had difficulty getting the care they need. I know a kid from a poor family, he's like 20, his mom is poor (but that's not his fault), and he was diagnosed with cancer and his mom didn't have insurance on him because she was poor. So this kid has no insurance, cancer and is in debt for more than me, you and he will probably make in all of our lives combined... and at 20, it's not easy to afford insurance, he was working part time while going to school and didn't have it...
I just see these things in some of my other friends as well and it's crazy... you can't put a price on a life, but if you're healthy and in debt for hundreds of thousands of dollars.. that's not much of a life either...
we just don't want the government to take away freedoms... if they want to add healthcare, we don't mind.. I think that there is a difference...

That's silly. Most Canadians think they have it well, the drugs made in the US are cheaper there than they are here.
An emergency room visit doesn't cost a dime. Much less than the standard $10,000 that it costs in the US.

The exact same reason NEOCONs demand the death penalty for most crimes. Then pitchs a fit when a woman gets abortion.
Sanctity of life and all that jolly old crap :D

I'm not sure about all that, but i do know that if you are poor and have no healthcare, socialized healthcare sounds appealing.
Doesn't sound like you're poor though.

Let families and people provide their own health care - then we'll see how many couch potatoes will sit around on welfare and government hand outs.
