They are just a bunch of malcontent lawyers who enjoy screwing with the law just because they can. If they dedicated their time to prosecuting criminals, it would be a better world to live in.

What makes you think you understand what Jefferson meant? I stand completely behind the ACLU even when they do things I think are wrong-headed.
The ACLU protects me from you and the imposition of your religious beliefs on me. Separation of church and state is integral to this democracy. Catholics, Baptists, Jews, Muslims, Mormons, Methodists, Charismatics, etc, etc, ad nauseum are able to freely practice their faiths in this country without fear that they or their children will be forced to acknowledge someone else's religion because the government forces them to.
Why do you people want a theocracy?? Aren't we trying to keep the Shiites and Sunnis from making Iraq a theocracy??
We just threw the Taliban out of Iraq. Every day Religious Conservatives seem hell-bent on making this country just as backward and ignorant as Afghanistan. WHY?!? Can't you worship in peace and with those who believe as you do and leave the rest of us to our chosen faith?
Please. If you did that, we wouldn't need the ACLU.

separation of church and state does not exist. they are mingled in with each other so deeply that it cannot be reversed. look at our president, god this and god that. he shouldn't be doing it but since HE feels it right then he does so. if a politician was to run as an agnostic or atheist, he wouldn't get many votes. this is a christian country always has been always will be. ACLU is a bunch of whining a**ssholes anyways. they'll do stuff like this and turn around and try to defend the rights of a convicted rapist.

The ACLU has done some good in the past, however few and far between...but the founding fathers were just trying to stop another Church of England.

The deal was simply to not have a government sponsored religion...nothing more or less...since there are so many variations on the theme, the ACLU should get out of the way on things like Christmas Trees, Manorahs, etc....
We also have to have freedom from religion...that may be more important to some...
And don't forget...there is prayer in public school...anytime there is a test...

You know, that is a very good question and I am going to add my two cents.
When Tom and them guys did the constitution and they said to separate church and state, they meant for the State not to be able to force a religion on them like the royals in Rome had done. "I'm Muslim, therefore everyone will worship Allah"... I believe that is what was meant by that clause.
I don't support the ACLU, they have insured the right of non-Christians by taking the right of the Christians to be able to have free speech or openly express our Christianity. Christians have to be quiet and hide for the sake of offending someone, but homosexuality is pushed in our faces through cartoons, oh by the way, when you want to inject something into our society, they place it in cartoons first, that way we become sensitized to it; anyway... television openly rapes men of their manhood, feminizing them, you see the occult everywhere again in cartoons, teen witches, old witches, nanny witches, but let's talk about God fearing people and you got lawsuites and craziness. They are a bunch of extreme, God hating people who is going to receive righteous judgment. God bless America? God Save America.

No I don't agree with the ACLU, nor anyone else who thinks separation means denial. It's obvious that religion was always a part of the formation and growth of our country. But, minority rule wasn't the way it was supposed to be either.

All they are attempting to do is to make sure that the government represents ALL Americans fairly without regard to what religious beliefs they hold. If you have a country run by a religious authority (like Iran) you have a nightmare. Is this what you would want?
Trying to keep the government secular is imperative if we want to keep our country free.
