Movies can have anything at all to do with prison. Suggestions include 25th Hour, The Shawshank Redemption, South Central, Boyz N Tha Hood, Dog Day Afternoon, Hurricane, etc. Movies need deal with prison itself, but can also relate to the fear of prison

The Green Mile - The characters were human, surrounded by the most surreal and magical being, who was so misunderstood and feared, who suffered yet healed, even though he did nothing wrong.

The Shawshank Redemption - Morgan Freeman as a man who was resigned to his fate in prison until he met Tim Robbins, a man who knew he did not belong in prison and who worked the system until he "dug" himself out, working on his own intelligence and the powerstruck warden's lack thereof.

Escape from New York - This movie was action packed and the plot was beyond riveting for an 80's flick. Kurt Russell did Snake well, and made futuristic prison look hellish.

Cool Hand Luke &
Shawshank Redemption were perfect.

25th Hour with Edward Norton was pretty good.

A movie called Scared Straight that was made in the 70's. It was a documentary filmed at Rahway State Prison in New Jersey, with the cons talking to a bunch of juvenile delinqueints about prison life.

I really liked Hurricane (love Denzel!) and the Shawshank Redemption. I also liked the Rock (with Nicolas Cage).
