Actually the U.S. is a republic, not a democracy.
I'm not going to argue politics with a foreigner.

No, it's a constitutional republic. It is a country governed by laws, not by the majority (as it would be in a democracy). Those laws are set forth, with the guidance of the Constitution, to protect life, liberty and personal property. We may very well be sliding towards socialism, but we aren't there yet. We can stop the slide and bring our country back. We must be cautious against allowing decisions to be made about the future of our country by any polarized group, liberal or conservative. Don't get caught up in the hate. That way leads to the Dark Side.

America was not initially set up to be a democracy. The original Bill of Rights and Constitution were drawn up to protect the free, white, male, landowners.
Who, exactly, was free on July 4th? The black man wasn't free. Women were not free---they could still be sold to "husbands" by their fathers--Native Americans were not free; No other culture or nationality who resided in the United States up until the time of the signing of both those documents were not eligible for, nor granted, freedoms under the Constitution. My how we've progressed through diligence, hard work, blood---literally---sweat, tears, and courage!!!
HOWEVER------the Founding Fathers did leave us a lifeline when they allowed for modification and amendment to the Constitution. The United States has become more democratic with our adding Amendments.
All in all, though----THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, is the most wonderful country in the world---bar none.
I honor those and thank those who are giving their lives and the lives of their families to military service.
RANGERS LEAD THE WAY!!!!!!!

America is more Oligarchy. We vote for people we want to represent us. This political system was first started by the Ancient Spartans in Greece. France revived it, and we liked how it worked out for them, so we copied it.
If by Democracy you mean America is spreading the idea to the world that every individual counts, (has a vote) then yeah, we want everyone on the planet to know they have a choice. We fought for years to have the limited rights we do have, and we covet our rights. We truly value them and want the world to know they can have them as well. We may be wrong, but our hearts are in the right place.

umm. USA is a republic not a democracy, realize that first of all.
"Guys and what for do we have UN"
The UN is full of a bunch of corrupted people. See Oil-for-food and oil-for-sex scandals. They are blatantly anti-american and don't help the world one bit.
"think they have right to war only because they don't like someone’s Politics"
noo, the Iraqi people wanted to be free. USA and Great Britian gave them their freedom. If you don't think so, look at the elections. Look how the IRAQI prime minister said "thank you" To the USA a month ago.
"To my mind it is problem of country and its people and no one more."
As the superpower of the world, and the freedom-lovin countries, I think it is their duty to assist the iraqi citizens to free them from insurgents/saddam/and other threats
This same attitude could've been used for Normandy, France in WW2. Americans could've just said "oh well it is their business"

No. Once upon a time, I think America was a democracy. But now, it's more socialistic. The Federal government owns more than 30% of all the land in the U.S. People vote in the presidential elections, not knowing that it makes no difference. The people do not choose the president- the electoral college does.

Is never was, isn't and never will be a real democracy...it is a representative form of government, where people, based on their geography get to choose the persons who represent them in the government, whether the views of said person mirror the voter.
If it was a true democracy, then the Confederacy would have been able to stay until it decided to return, and several Presidents who did not win electoral vote but won popular vote, most recently Al 'sniffing the warmer air' Gore would have been President....and I would not be under the clutches of living in a 'blue state' of NY
Remember, there are no Blue states...only Blue cities...

After serving in the Military and stationed in South Korea, there were certain limitations and rules that were nonsense but none the less, laws of that country.
Freedom of speech is NOT universal. I embrace it and excercise my free speech as often as I can.
Democracy is still an American ideal and at best, it is a really good way to govern. What hinders democracy are politicians and religious zeolots like Jerry FATwell and Pat ROBOTson and having to endure the corruption of the Office of Presidency by that moron George Walker Bush.
Have faith in our once great and proud country. January 20th, 2009, he will be out of office.

You should ask someone who is not from this country. Why do you think we have so many foreigners coming here? They are from countries where they don't have the freedoms we do. Just be thankful you live in a country where you have free speech, and other such freedoms.
