Lots of things, but sliced bread has somehow become the benchmark for the usefulness of an invention...everyone uses it.
PS English is a living language so feel free to use a substitue phrase...it might end up being more popular than, uh, sliced bread...lol

If you're asking what is the latest technological advancment to affect mankind that would have to be the information age, before that the industrial age, and before that, well.. the printing press. These events have changes the way humankind interacts with ourselves, our family, our society, and the world at large. However, each of these things comes with its benefits as well as its disasters. Think of communicating across the world in a matter of seconds and then global warming because of all the plants and that spew gases... Something to think about.

No, sliced bread is still the greatest thing on earth.
But there is the question: where did the bread come from? Where did the slicer come from?
Who sliced the bread?
Who made the bread slicer?
These are some deep questions that man has been pondering for millenia.

Given how much of a cliche that phrase has become, I'd have to say that there are a great number of things which are considered better than sliced bread.

Well, there's me and technology but that's about it (=D)
I think the problem is that there's far too many humans for any one of them to be really important. Keep reproducing, people! Way to help the world!
