Volkswagen is wearing round a nasty attractiveness from the 80's even as the automobiles.... properly..... sucked.... so take any reliability advice with a grain of salt... once tarnished, a attractiveness like it really is demanding to recuperate.... notwithstanding I actually have known lots of those with VWs (more recent ones.... > 1995), and that all of them concept the international of them. I'm not e-mailing you. However - you probably have a jug of bug-wash or anti-freeze in your trunk (or something else that's kinda heavy) and you brake hard which causes the item to thump around. I have the same car, and I attribute that noise to the stuff in my trunk.

I asked the same question at my dealer and was told it's a water pump
