The other day I went to the store. I stayed in the car and ate my lunch, while my mom ran into the Grocery Store to get some things. I little bit later, I noticed that a fire truck pulls up right next to the store on the red line and four guys hop out and run in. I'm thinking that some excitment must be happing, but I decide to wait and finish lunch. A little bit after that I notice the same four guys walk out of the store with Groceries in their hands and hop in their truck and drive away. COMPLETELY UNFAIR. Do you think that they should be able to do that, park in the red, when it is not an emergancy.

Lol I got a kick out of this since my dad is a firefighter -

Firefighters go on grocery runs all the time (they work in 24-hour shifts most of the time so they make food for themselves too!). I've never actually heard of or seen them park in the red but if you think about it, there's nothing wrong with it . . the reason why you can't park in the red in the first place is because if there IS an emergency and you're there, you'd be blocking the path for the emergency vehicle. Now, I understand that it wasn't an emergency and they were there, but since they were in the emergency vehicle it wouldn't be a hazard to anyone if a real emergency would come up; they're right there, they don't have to move for themselves :)

It would be unfair if your car could extinguish a fire and they wouldn't let you park there, but unfortunately that's not the case, lol.

I don't see a problem, if they're protecting our safety to begin with, in letting them do little things like that. They protect and serve and work very hard . . and since they aren't posing any real danger since they ARE the force, I personally don't mind when they get little privileges.

First you have to understand tha nature of their job. They are expected to respond to emergencies at a moments notice. They need to be prepared in any circumstance or scenario to be able to acheive that response time. Consider this, these men and women are working 24 hour shifts, they eat, sleep and live together never out of earshot of one another so they can be ready to help those in need. Anything that prevents them from responding in the most expeditious manner can be fatal to you or someone you know. If they were required (using your example) to park their trucks at the far end of a lot or on the street, and they had to respond to a call, the minutes and maybe even seconds of extra time it takes them to get to the truck can cost someone their life. Give them some slack. They are a major asset to us all and I would never expect them to do anything that I don't think is right just because it appears to be unfair. There is a reason for all they do and those reason are always legitimate.

Yes, it is completely logical and fair. They need to shop for essentials as we all do. But, one difference is that if there is an emergency, they must drop everything, including that frozen pizza, and run for the truck.

What if that truck was parked in the middle of the parking lot? Could they reach it in time to save lives?

That red zone is for their use whether it be fire or shopping. They are on duty every minute.

Dude ... its a FIRE lane.. for fire trucks.. there may not have been a emergency while they were IN the store, but what if they had gotten a call while there.. do you want them to run through the parking lot to their space and navigate the truck through the parking lot.... seconds count in an emergency.. they need to be able to leave quickly.

Fireman and other emergency technicians are on call 24/7. If they need to park in a red zone to quickly get some groceries so that their own needs are met, what is wrong with that? They do not have to answer a crisis every moment, for sure, but they have to be ready to answer every moment's crisis. I would rather have someone able to do a rescue who is well-fed and healthy, wouldn't you?
I disagree with you on this. It is not only completely fair, but necessary.

Hi, unfortunately that's the way it is. However, where I live there is a volunteer ambulance service that are not allowed to use their sirens for no reason and if they do the police gets involved. So I guess some people are honest, while others take advantage of their jobs. The same with people stealing supplies from the businesses they work in, ex: pens.

NO

But maybe it WAS an emergency. Then they found out it wansn't a fire. The sandwiches looked good and they were hungry as they relaxed. Cops and Firemen deserve certain priveledges, fair or not I think. If you were stuck in there, and there was a fire , they would have to run in and get you. I've seen them do that sort of thing. I'm always amazed.

No its not fair to do that but then again they are the guys who would do something in case of an emergency rather than some loser in a limo or something. As well as maybe thats the only place they could park.

Although, they were on duty, they parked in an emergency zone, and, the situation was not an emergency.
Police do it all the time, and yes, it is wrong. Next time, take a picture and take it to your local newspaper, so the citizens can see how their taxes are being spent.
