Police officers are tasing citizens for small reasons. Here is a video clip of a woman being tasered for nothing more than a traffic stop.

OK, first of all, the volts aren't what hurt you, it's the ampheres (amps). Secondly, there are no residual side effects. After the "5-second ride" the person who was tased is able to get up and walk like nothing has happened. Trust me, I have been tased as part of a training class for the Taser. It is a good method to ensure compliance without actually hurting the individual.

In that particular situation I believe that officer had every right to tase that women; she wasn't being complient with his requests, he told her several times that he would tase her if she did not follow his instructions and she still didn't listen, therefore she deserved it and the officer was justified in his action.

Tasers are very effective way to control a situation without using deadly force.

It stings like heck, but a lot less than a bullet or a beat down with a night stick. And the damage is not permanent or life threatening. But police shouldn't abuse it, just like they shouldn;t abuse mace, just because its less-than-lethal doesn't mean it should be used indiscriminately.

depends on how disruptive the perp is....if used unnecessarily, that's police brutality, but in some cases, people are violent when being arrested/approached, and it's the only way to subdue them.
