Glenn Beck had a funny commentary on the penny.

He said you know it's time to get rid of the penny, when you can have a bowl of pennies with a sign next to them saying "TAKE ONE" sitting by the register in the most robbed convience store in the roughest neighborhood in Harlem, and no one touches any.

That's crazy talk! What is this world coming to???????
I like pennies because you can throw them at cars while you are driving. And the best part is that it only costs a penny!!! What were to happen if I were to throw a nickel?? That would cost 5 times more than throwing a penny!

What we should do is re-value the dollar to equal ten current dollars, make the current 10 cent (future 1 cent) the smallest currency, and go to 2 cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, 20 cent, and 50 cent coins.

Second option: mint no more one-cent coins, but allow vendors to round to the nearest 5-cent mark. They could accept pennies for removal from circulation.

In any case, the one-dollar note needs to be pulled in favour of the dollar coin for the same logic, reduced costs of printing and minting cash.

Although the penny costs about 1.4 cents to make, it is crucial for our economy. immagine no pennies, gas would go up by a nickle everytime. Taxes would go up. It would cost too much money to totally abandon the penny. As much as it seems to be a hastle at times, we must keep it.

Here's my two cents:
I like pennies! They allow my children to ride the mechanical pony at our grocery store.

I understand the issue and I agree that it is rarely ever used and many people just throw them away. I am afraid that if we get rid of it prices will increase, because you know they won't decrease to compensate.

I prefer we keep the penny. I have no logical explanation other
than because I want to.

I'm not sure how it will work but I'm sure they have a plan. They just collect in a jar in my house for 6 months until I cash them in and get like 5 bucks. Seems like a good idea to me!

No, keep it. Even though it has little value, you end up probably inflating prices in the very long run and then they may start thinking about getting rid of the nickel, dimes.......later
