Dude....tough call! It seems like the Big Ten is moving more and more to the West Coast Offense, but the foundation of the conference is running the ball. Perhaps not as much as in the SEC, but the coaches in the Big Ten need to run to win.

That leaves us with a lot of good players to consider:

Michigan's Michael Hart
Ohio State's Antonio Pittman
Minnesota's Amir Pinnix
Northwestern's Tyrell Sutton
Michigan State's Javon Ringer
Wisconsin's Hill/Walker/Foster combo
Penn State's Tony Hunt
Indiana's Josiah Sears
Illinois's Pierre Thomas
Iowa's Albert Young
and
Purdue's Kory Sheets.

My money is on Tyrell Sutton as the best back in the Big Ten, but the spread offensive never hurts. Sutton averaged 5.9 yards per carry last season, and he will get more touches with Basanez gone. My only concern is that the offense could get too one-dimensional there if CJ Bacher can't keep up the good progress made by Basanez.

Who will lead the conference in rushing yards next year? That's gonna be Albert Young. He is built like the ideal RB. Strong and quick. He and Drew Tate are the perfect one-two punch on the Hawkeye offense.

The most valuable back to their team? Kory Sheets. Purdue QB Curtis Painter loves to run the option, and that will only add to Sheets's production.

My Honorable Mentions are extended to Hart, Pittman, Ringer and Pinnix who will all have HUGE seasons next year.

Keep your eyes on Jehuu Caulcrick for MSU, though...he's fantastic, too.

Man, there's just to many good backs to choose....GREAT QUESTION!!!!

Watch Ohio State's running backs. They have some good young ones. Antonio Pittman is only a junior, Maurice Wells is a sophomore, and Chris Wells is a freshman...all three are potential starters although Pittman will most likely get the job based on seniority. I believe Chris Wells was named best running back in the country during his senior year of HS. Just keep an eye on the Buckeyes, they may not have the best SINGLE running back this year, but they could put up some big numbers.

I'd say Pinnix and Rowan will have an impact based upon past history of RBs at their school. Namely Rowan following the footsteps of Dayne, Davis and Calhoun as great RBers at Wisconsin.

Chris Wells/Pittman will be head and shoulders above everybody else in the platoon. If one of them breaks out, I expect them to be huge this year. Wells is a bruiser but also can break tackles extremely well and Pittman has shown a lot in Spring Games.

Mike Hart is another one to watch out for, but his injury concerns are high. Not Fred Taylor high, but high nonetheless. If he stays healthy he'll be a force to be reckoned with.

Tyrell Sutton had a huge impact as a freshman but with Basanez gone, I don't know if NW can put out a decent QB to take pressure off of him. But since NW is a shotgun-happy offense, I wouldn't be too thrown off.
