I didn't like it when I first moved here 10 years ago, but you know what, I am proud to be here! I was born here and then moved all over the world, but I came back and I am DAMN proud to be here! So why do "outsiders" find us sooo weird/nasty??

THis isn't really an answer to your question but I thought of it while reading the respones...Have you heard the new Budweiser "We Salute You" commercial? It is too proud of Texas Guy. It is hilarious! Yankee Wussies! LOL! So there are 49 other states? what do we care? Amen!

Proud to be from Austin!!!!

Oh yeah, and probably one one the reasons they hate us is our portrayal in the media! We always look like stupid cowboys. Heard of Walker Texas Ranger, George Bush, Dixie Chicks, Anna Nicole? See my question on this issue and respond!

You either love it or hate it. There's the mystique of the Texas culture. Ok....and?

The people are generally friendly. It has a really good economy with most cities there serving as economic power houses for the nation. Very transient as a result.

For the one that don't like it, it's because of it's lack of scenery and weather. Seriously you can drive miles and miles and see not one area of interest. If someone told me I was actually in Kansas I'd tend to believe them.

It's boring. The landscape is flat and mundane. The cities culturally do not compare to other Metro areas across the US.

To each his own. But as for me, you can have Texas.

Im not big on Texas but It seems this Yahoo! forum is full of super liberal people. I am middle of the road but I cannot stand super liberals either, who stand around crying for the rights of child molesters and totally scumbags. I love California but I cant stand some of the mega liberal pusses that live in it. The only reason I dont like Texas is two things; most of it is just plain ugly to look at and its way too hot to live in.

I have lived in different parts of Texas and I am one who hates it. The people are nice but the state and it's laws are ridiculous. I am not speaking as a person who have been on the wrong side of the law but as a legal professional. Texas laws are some of the harshest ones I have ever seen. I'm not referring to criminals but for citizens who get a traffic ticket. That 3 year surcharge will get you even if you move out of state. The legal system there is horrible and I feel for anyone who gets entangled in it.

95% of those people are narcisstic. I bs you not. I lived there 13 years before finally moving. I just couldn't take it anymore. When I crossed into another state,i swear I kissed the ground. I will never go back there again. My nightmare is over.

IKR! I live in Killeen, and everyone keeps talking about Texans.
It's not like I don't have proper grammer, I don't have a mullet ( :/ ) and I live in a normal city just like anywhere else.

Im from Cali and live in Texas and I know more Californians here than I do Texans. Texans feel like californians are moving in on them and bringing all the bullshit politics with them. Texans can be arrogant but Californians can be obnoxious and overly opinionated. There are exceptions as always but in general, this is the conclusion of my analysis after being here for 10 years. It's like moving into someones house and then telling them how its going to be. I would hate you too.

Austin used to be cool until all these non-Austinites moved in here starting fifteen to twenty years ago, and turned it from something cool, kind of weird, and quaint (not so in your face) into this ultra-poser, hipster fest. Now Austin is just becoming this conformist, elitist, hipster (be sure to wear your plaid, etc) city that it was most definitely not for many real born and raised Austinites. It was about being free, and just loving life. Not trying to fit in to a clique...
