I'm still in high school and I like this guy on my year round swim team. He's two years older than me and it would be embarassing if I asked him out and he said no. I don't know if he likes me back or not and I don't really want to be straightforward and tell him I like him. What should I do?

You should do what you don't want to do. Tell him how you feel and ask him out. He will say yes or he will say no. Why don't you wish to be honest and straightforward? What kind of relationship would you have if it is not based upon honesty? When I was in high school I asked many girls to go out with me. Most of them said no. Did it bother me or cause me to wonder why they did not want to go out? No it did not. It is their right to say no. However, as time passed, many of these girls confided in me that they wished they had said yes. In fact, by saying no to me it enabled me to move on with my life, the result being that I met and married the kindest, sweetest, most considerate and loving woman I have ever known. In addition to being husband and wife we are lovers and the very best of friends. Most of the girls who said "no" to me are now divorced. You should not be embarrassed if someone declines your offer. Instead, you should be proud of yourself for having the strength and conviction to follow your heart. Take comfort that, in all probability, it is his loss and not yours.

Hi Maysfan! What about a suttle compliment? See how he reacts. Also, you might invite him to a party--not as a date, but to get the advantage to socialize one on one. Last but not least, in the end the answer is going to be yes or no! Gather up some confidence and go for it!
