Network, network, network - and not with other unemployed job hunters either! Use every person you've ever met who has a friend/relative/acquaintence in Chicago to give you names of real people. Contact them and ask about their business, if it's expanding, and who might be a good person to talk to if want to learn more about their area of expertise. Also look for seminars or meetings in the industry and if they're open to the public, attend and start working the room.

Confining a job search to interenet or newpaper postings is one of the worst mistakes a job hunter can make. Most jobs are filled through referrals and word of mouth. Make sure someone's talking about you!
