The referee was an emberrasment to his uniform especially in the second half. I'm just curious whats the going price for that kind of refereeing for a game as important as this

you guys are yelling at me as if im merely crying about argentina losing, and while i am weeping since I am from argentina, i actually am a bit curious as to what you guys would think a referee would cost to be baught off in a game like this. So instead of telling me to stop crying, i would like to hear any estimates.

super girl i watched that game with the new record of yellow cards, and I happen to be a registered soccer referee, and i can tell you that every one of those cards were warrented. Most were coutner attack stopping intentional fouls from behind. They merrited atleast a yellow card if not more.

I know it looks like the ref got a "bonus" from the German Soccer Association, especially during the second half, but this guy was nothing compared to the ref who INVENTED a foul in the penalty area and awarded Germany a penalty kick late in the second half. That was during the final between Argentina and Germany in 1990. THAT sucked!
In comparison, this guy wasn't so bad. I think the reality of it is that the ref is human, too. I say this not to excuse any mistakes, as the phrase is commonly used, but to point out that fear is part of the equation. The ref wants to be able to walk out of the stadium in one piece at the end of the match: he doesn't want to be linched by a liederhosen, stein swigging ubercrowd. If a German does something close to being a foul, the ref will let it slide, while if an Argentine does the same thing, the ref will make sure to call it. Case in point is the yellow card Crespo or Rodriguez got for a dive in the German penalty area, but ten minutes later, when Podolski or Klose did basically the same thing in the Argentine penalty area, the ref let it slide.
It wasn't money, it was self-preservation.

while it could be said that some calls will favour the home team in the world cup, I think that Argentina only has their coach to blame. He was happy to protect a 1-0 lead and made bad substitution decisions. If he would have kept playing the attacking style for 90 minutes, instead of 75 minutes, Argentina would be through to the semis.

hey man, it's not as simple as that. nowadays you don't have to "pay" the ref. It's just that this ref now will almost surely whistle the final game. And Germany has to win the trophy, because otherwise they wouldn't bother organise the WC at first place. Football is politics for the masses and Argentina couldn't win that game yesterday. Did you notice that the ref in the game of England vs Portugal is Argentinian? That's because the final has to be Germany vs Brazil and Germany has to take it. Don't freak out, just don't bother. Clausura and Apertura is way more worth tha trouble...

im a fan of south american football, especially Argentiana the team of stars. for me as a tunisian i really think that Argentina is the best team in the worldcup. i think that its idealistic to say that Germany should win the game and will win the world cup since its on their land. i really think that if this game was held in any other country, Germany would have lost the game, so dont worry everybody Germany will win the world cup...... and they will keep paying referees till the final.

Germany's sportsmanship was pathetic. At the end of the game to diss out the other team?? Come on, of course they are going to react because they play football with passion not like a bunch of stuck up over rated, sucky style football team.
So, basically, if you wanna know, the Argentines played a better game, but the refs favoured the Germans, being the home team and all, they couldn't lose....why? MONEY TALKS. GOOD LUCK GERMANY CAUSE YOU WILL NEED IT AND DONT FORGET TO LEAVE YOUR TIPS TO THE REFS AT THE END OF THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Conspiracy theory. Germany v. Brazil in the final is the only way to go marketing-wise. Those teams will fill the stands and everyone will make their money. Germany will win on home turf and everyone will be happy. Except me - Argentina was ROBBED!!!!

A llorar a la iglesia. Like we say in Argentina, go to church to cry. The referee didn't do anything wrong, just the normal errors.

Come on guys whenever a team loses it's the referees fault..accept the fact that you lost and hope that in 2010 you'll do better.
