Compare North Korea and Iraq. Iraq is defenceless and weak; in fact, the weakest regime in the region. While there was a horrible monster running it (Saddam), it does not pose a threat to anyone else. No neighbor was in the least way afradi of Iraq, US citizens were polled and so were neighboring states around Iraq's citizens, the fear factor was so much higher in the US, where we know Iraq could have never touched in the least way.
North Korea, on the other hand, does pose a threat. North Korea, however, is not attacked for a very simple reason: it has a deterrent. It has a massed artillery aimed at Seoul, and if the United States attacks it, it can wipe out a large part of South Korea.
So the United States is telling the countries of the world: if you are defenceless, we are going to attack you when we want, but if you have a deterrent, we will back off, because we only attack defenceless targets. In other words, it is telling countries that they had better develop a terrorist network and weapons of mass destruction or some other credible deterrent; if not, they are vulnerable to "preventive war".
For that reason alone, this so-called Iraq war will to lead to the proliferation of both terrorism and weapons of mass destruction by others.
Bad idea from the start, getting worse every day we allow it to continue, troops out now!

USA is no doubt a great country. It is unfortunately being in the hands of very arrogant and shallow leadership.USA helps most of the poor countries of the world. It is the first to come forward to help in the hours of calamity and other disasters. It;s previous government under President Clinton was much mature in handling the world affairs. So,we should expect them to play a more effective role in future. As for its defence against other strong nation is concerned,it must be understood that USA has an enormous defence capability which cannot be matched by any other country.

Lets break this question down into smaller pieces:
1) Will the US ever go to war with another country? Possibly. It's impossible to know what will happen in the future.
2) Does the US only attack weak countries? Not really. Iraq was thought to have really really bad weapons and was expected to use them against US troops during an invasion. Had saddam used chemical weapons (of course if they existed to begin with, which is a whole other topic of debate) he could have potentially inflicted very terrible losses to US forces, so at the time the country was not thought to be terribly weak.
This exposes a fact which is really worth pointing out. The united states has by FAR AND AWAY the largest military of any country. In 1999 (before september 11th and the huge rise in military spending afterwards), the united states spent more money on defense than the next 9 countries COMBINED (see source). So, by definition any country is militarily weak compared to the united states.
3) could the united states defend itself against a well armed nation? Short answer: Probably. Long answer: a lot depends on politics and what the situation is. We did pull out of vietnam and that was a tiny relatively weak country at the time. By the same token, our complacency led us to be vulnerable to terrorism which any small group of people could pull off, so the "well armed nation" question is not really all that relevant.
To the guy who called this question "This is a ridiculously liberal crap question" I disagree. Coming up with a reasoned argument against such questions instead of dismissing them out of hand is best for everyone (not to mention more respectful). The question of "fighting against people who want to kill us" is misleading. Prior to the invasion of iraq the only people in that country who wanted to kill US citizens were saddam and a small cadre of his closest relatives and associates. And they had little to no way of doing so. Invading the country actually turned iraqi opinion against the US more than had been prior. Finally, iraq originally had nothing to do with al qaeda. Attacking iraq because of terrorism is like attacking germany because you're at war with france and france and germany could potentially team up sometime in the future. It just didnt make sense.

This is a ridiculously liberal crap question. We are fighting against people that want to kill us, in case you forgot. I am thankful to all the troops that are overseas fighting for this country. Even if this country went to war under false pretenses, we do not need another country trying to kill us while we just rest on our laurels and tell everyone that 'we know we are bigger than them so we do not want to pick on that country.' What if Al Quaida blew up your families house, or decided that your children should have some sort of toxin released at their school? I'm sure you would have a different opinion.

Personally, I don't think a well armed nation can EXIST with USA present.
Look at North Korea: It's getting stronger and more respect by having nuclear weapons, so the USA quickly tries to negotiate with the president of NK.
Same with Iran.

Your ignorance shows that you don't have any idea about US history.
WWII, I guess that was just the USA bullying those pesky Germans for incinerating 6,000,000 jews... Oh, well... that was useless we never should have gone.
OH, and nevermind that the Marshall Plan paid for the rebuilding of Europe after that war.
Yeah.. the USA such a bad bad nation.
Go read a history book. You've been brainwashed by the media and propaganda from "those pesky Islamic Radicals".

The USA goes to war in defense of itself and others. There is no bullying the little guy as you say. Do some research before you spout off your uneducated nonsense.

We could defend ourselves against a well armed nation if we went head to head, but if I read Putin right, the plan is to completely sabotage us and set up an hour or so annihilation of the US. Hopefully I'm wrong.

We're pretty much allies with those countries...so no.
But yes we could defend ourselves and we will have to come North Korea/Iran time.
(to answers below)
BAH! i am so shocked.
you know if we invaded North Korea instead of Iraq the liberals would whine about it just as much.
North Korea and Iran are dangerous and would be even more so if they had nuclear weapons. The world is united in this fact, so it's not just the US that is afraid of "sharing its power"
try checking your facts.

Right now? No, we're all in Iraq. If we hadn't invaded Iraq we coulda faught VERY well. I don't like war but I'm not an idiot, I know we have an amazing military.
I don't, however, think we'll fight another superpower anytime soon. It's just stupid on all ends. Why fight them when we could band together and exploit little countries?!
