I'd be surprised if the doctor went for it, but you could ask. Your sibling having surgery may be very stressful for you, but you won't be able to be there for him/her if you have delivered. You'll have to be home with your baby (the hospital won't let the baby be in the surgical area).
Also know that not all inductions work. Have seen people who've been induced 3, 4 and 5 times in the same pregnancy. The baby will come when s/he is ready.
While your sibling's surgery may be important to you, there wasn't any thought of your pregnancy when it was scheduled. It had to be done when it had to be done. The same is true of your pregnancy. The baby will come when the time is right for the baby. Maybe the benefit of being there with your sibling outweighs the other side of having the baby before the surgery and not being able to be there.

If you are already a 4, it seems very doubtful that you will last that long anyways. Maybe you should try inducing labor naturally on your own? Otherwise go ahead and ask. Although, I doubt with a newborn you'll want to be hanging out at the hospital. Good luck!

Personally, it sounds like induction may not be necessary. Induction is usually reserved for longer than normal gestation for the safety of the fetus.Induction in my experience was more painful since Pitocin is utilized in such a way that there were no rests between contractions. I have even seen doctors induce before they go on vacation. Like with all factors of childbirth complications occur. Personally, I don't believe in the practice unless necessary. Ask your doctor. He might go for it. Of course most people opt for the epidural so there is no pain. I would go with your doctor's reccommendation. At 4 cm, you might start progressing soon, especially if it's not your first. Congratulations and good luck.

I wouldnt see a problem with it. I'm 38 weeks right now and want to hurry and get her out of me now and I dont even have an excuse like you do AND I'm not dialated so I think it's perfectly fine. As long as you're past the 37th week I would do it! Heck you're already dialated go for it!

absolutley not! once you are 37 or 38 weeks you are considered full term, meaning if you go into labor they most likely will not try to stop it. i see nothing wrong with asking to be induced at 39 weeks. I went into labor on my own during my 39th week and there was nothing wrong with my daughter. she was a healthy 8 lb. baby! I say go for it and ask away!! :)

Well, the longer the baby is in there the better but since you're 39 weeks it should be fully developed. Go ahead and consault with your dr and see what he/she says. But remember with a newborn you're not going to be in any shape to be at the hospital for your sibling's operation. You're going to be exhausted and sore for a while.

My labor was induced w/ both of my children w/ no complications. But if I were you I would let the angel come when he/she is ready. But if that is what you choose to do and your doctor is in agreement go for it. Good luck and congrats

No, you are to term, the baby is fully formed, if you are 4 cm dilated, you should go in on your own any time. But go quickly, you haven't got far to go til delivery. You won't last more than a couple of days in this state, so if you opt to wait it out it is easier on your system to go naturally.

yes it is wrong cuase that baby will come out when he/she is ready. and if u have it induced u can still cause health problems cause the baby with be concidered premature and thay will keep the baby in the hospitil till ur due date to make sure hr/she is okay. and that is kinda selfish of u to want to do to ur baby. it dont matter how far along u r yes it would. cause u dont know when that baby is coming out. not ur choice and if u want it to be u shouldnt have kids cause thats just wrong. let the baby be born when the baby says its time not u. anyways what r u gonna be able to do when ur family member is in surgery. nothing. and who will take care of ur baby while u see ur family member cause its not wise to bring a baby back to the hospital after it has gone home and is safe. u know a baby eats about every 2 hrs when its born so... u r selfish.. and thay keep the mother in the hospital for 24--72hrs after the baby is born and the baby is not relesed for 24hrs after he/she is born. and if the baby is born early thay will keep the baby till the due date
