Sometimes we see glittering lights and believe it is one of the wee folk. Sometimes it is just swamp gas but other times...well, you know. Fairies may cross large bodies of water only if they have particularly powerful spell-casting abilities. Selkies and the like have been known to drown unsuspecting bog-trotters thinking to catch that "errant horse" or find a hidden treasure.
My advice? Stay away from the fae folk.

Don't know about a fairy but there are two ferrys that go from Wisconsin to Michigan and back daily.
