Once again, here's an encore of my answer to a similar question...
From what I've seen, a lot people have complained that rap is "all about drugs, money and bling" and that it's filled with profanity and it degrades women. And from what I've seen and heard in the mainstream media, that's unfortunately true. But what most of the people that complain about rap's many vices don't realize is that they're only seeing one dimension of rap. The mainstream media has been oversaturated by cookie-cutter rappers because right now, they're the ones bringing their record companies the most money. Some, like me, might be old enough to remember this and some might not be, but back in the late 80's and early to mid 90's there was a lot of variety and substance to rap. THAT is what's sorely lacking in mainstream rap right now - variety and substance. In the mainstream, there's nothing to choose from anymore, kinda like going to McDonald's and seeing nothing but fries on the overhead menu.
Fortunately for those of us who haven't given up on hip hop, there's still variety and substance out there if you know where to look. There's always one source of good, quality rap music: the underground circuit. For instance...

And if you're into beats/instrumentals more than the MC, then check out some stuff from Jay Dee, aka - J Dilla (R.I.P.), 9th Wonder, Nicolay and Fat Jon (aka - Fat Jon The Ample Soul Physician) to name a few.
Try it. You might like it. ^_^

It's a matter of different taste (that goes along with culture and race). I personally don't enjoy hip-hop or rap music but many don't enjoy the music I like. The people who like hip-hop and dislike rock could say "what's up with rock? it's just a bunch of grown men screaming about how their daddies never taught them anything." Different people in different cultures and races have different tastes. The hip-hop music genre has an obvious target audience and it applies to their lifestyle and way of thinking (which would explain the content in the music videos).

All genres of music seem to be getting shallower and shallower and all come out of a corporate mold. You gotta search extra hard to find socially relevant musicians. As far as rap goes, try Mos Def, Common, or Talib Kweli.

Yeah, some rap is like that, but some rock is bad like that too. But you see, not all of rap is bad and not all of rock is bad either. It all depends on everybodys opinions.

YOU KNOW, I USED TO LOVE HIP HOP IN THE 90'S, WITH DR DRE, NAUGHTY BY NATURE, PETE ROCK AND CL SMOOTH, WU TANG AND SUCH, BUT NOW IT SEEMS TO BE JUST INSULTING ITSELF. ITS LIKE A PARODY OF ITSELF. VERY FEW HAVE ANY TALENT (NAS, 50, EMINEM, PAUL WALL) AND IT DISGUSTS ME WHEN I SEE TALENTLESS ONE HIT WONDERS ON CRIBS IN THEIR, UM, CRIBS!!
