Sorry but I don't have nearly enough info about the problem to give you an adequate answer. Is it cranking but not starting, or is it not cranking at all? Have you checked all pertinent wiring, from the switch on back? You could have loose or corroded wires, you could have a bad starter, bad alternator/generator, or it could be something else. Not enough info to narrow it down any further.

I'm not sure how mechanically inclined you are for sure so I'll keep it basic. An engine has three basic needs to run, spark, compression and fuel. All of these things also have to happen at the appropriate times in appropriate ratios. First remove one of your spark plugs and hook the wire back up and set the plug on something metal of the engine i.e. the intake. crank the engine over you should get a fairly strong spark moving between the electrode. If not then you need to trouble shoot. Bad module? no power to distributor? broken distributor gear? Anyway let's assume you have spark if so then put take the air cleaner off and pour a small amount of fuel into the carb. Try it again. if this yields nothing after a few tries. chances are it's not a fuel issue. lastly and least likely pull one of the plugs again and borrow or rent a compression tester thread it in, crank it and see what you've got it should be at least in the 75-100 psi area at min. try those things and see what happens. that's by no means an all inclusive list but it should help you home in on the problem. Good luck and if all else fails slap a 460 in it he-he

If the boat has been sitting for a long period of time you may have some valves stuck open, there for you have very low compression in some cylinders. check to see if you gas, compression, spark to the spark plugs, and air to the carb. and the timing is OK, the motor should run. There are other obvious things that need to be checked. If you have the first things that i mentioned it should start.
