Yes, because we are the scrappy A's. The teams in the east will destroy each other with their front-office wars, and we will survive the post-season drama.

Just look how many injuries we've had this year, at one point four of our top pitchers--yes, including Loaiza--were on the disabled list, yet we're still in first place somehow. Plus countless other injuries we've had. We had a 10-game winning streak recently, and didn't even have Frank Thomas for some of those games. Every day it was a different player picking up for us. And look out, American League, for Steve Swisher. He's another Reggie in the making. I predict a few years from now, he'll be one of the most-sought-after players. Hopefully we can keep him, like Chavvy. Anyhow, to get back to my point, every day a different hitter or pitcher or combination of players stepped up and delivered in that winning streak; and we had a great June overall.

That just proves we have a deep lineup and enough pitching to win even without our best players. Another case in point: Harden was supposed to be our ace for this year--and he's done for the season...and we're still in the hunt for the postseason. We still have not played to our potential because of all the injuries. So we're just warming up. We'll be in the postseason, all right, and we'll finally get over the hump and win it all.

Yes, we are better than the Giants. We have more talent up-and-down the lineup than they do. Go A's!!! Go green-and-gold!!!

I do not think the Oakland A's will win the World Series. For that matter, I don't think they'll be playing in the WS. However, I do believe they will be the AL West representative in the playoffs. This is a fairly balanced squad, basically typical of A's teams the last few years.

The pitching staff would be better if Rich Harden were healthy. He had been touted as a Cy Young candidate going into this season, but injuries have kept him on the shelf for most of the year. Thankfully for Oakland, Barry Zito has been pitching extremely well. All the talk about Barry being dealt by the All-Star break is highly unlikely considering the success he's having. I don't think he'll be with the staff come next year, but they will probably ride him as far as they can this year. Joe Blanton, Dan Haren, and Kirk Saarloss have been holding their own. Esteban Loaiza will be a big key in the second half.

As usual, hitting is a weak spot for the Athletics. The additions of Milton Bradley and Frank Thomas were supposed to give the team extra pop. But just like Harden, these two have been frequent visitors to the DL. And just like Loaiza, they will be key if Oakland is going to sneak into the playoffs.

As for the fan base, I don't think the Oakland market supports the team all that well. The team struggles financially, even with some very good teams over the last decade. Talk of relocation has been a constant rumor for some time now.

They have as good a shot as any other AL team right now. They have proven that they don't need a big power hitter to win, besides if their rotation pitches well they can shut down a powerful offense and win on base hits. Also, they are playing more small ball this year, then any other year in the past. And small ball teams go on to win championships, ie... 2003 Florida Marlins, 2002 Angels. Plus no question about it who has better fans, the A's fans are much better. A's fans don't leave games after Chavez has a final at bat the way Giants fans do after Barry. Also A's fans can name more than 2 players on the team. And A's fans never give up hope.

No, they lack hitting at too many positions and their pitchers are very unexpierienced in post season play. They do have a solid lefty in barry zito who seems to be peaking at the right time. They have one of the best closers in the business inn huston street who graduated from the university of texas with a national championship. Their hitting is suspect because they simply don't have the power hitters to carry a team. Without Chavez they would be left to Crosby and swisher who are just too young to win a world sereis without a lot of talent behind them. Another problem for the A's is that their win trend is going straight down.2001:102,2002:103,2003:96,2004:91,2005:88. I predict about 82 wins for them this season. They've lost some of their best pitching yet replaced it with other young greats like harden and haren. They're currently in 1st in their respective division yet that will probably not stand with the mariners, rangers, and angels all beginning to peak. Another problem is that the A's never got out and pick up players at the trade deadline. I feel like the Angels will go after that extra bat to propel them to the top of the division.
Overal the A's are a solid but not world series champions team.

The A's fans support their team better than the giants. A's fans are probably the loudest in the business besides Boston. they're always behind their team!

i like oakland and they have a strong team with good pitchers if all the players give 110% then they will have a good chance to win also barry zito needs to stay healthy for the remainder of the year. for the AL this year i think its between blue jays and the athletics. the best thing about the athletics are that hey are underrated and if thier opponents dont consider them a threat the As will win every time.

They're good, but not THAT good, but the others are right, there are too many strong teams out there, and frankly, you dont have the hitting power to pass teams like the yankees and red sox

The Oakland fans are not as good as the giants because after all, they still support Barry Bonds after all he's done, they still love him, which is tough to do

Get serious. Although they are better than the Giants, they are not good enough to win the pennant OR the World Series. They gave away some of their best pitchers and now do not have the firepower they need to win it all.

Sorry, but I have to call them as I see them.

No. They have good pitching but the other American League teams are too strong this year. White Sox are the favorite. But hey good luck you never know.

I highly doubt it

1 Because two teams can't BOTH win, and, well, as we all know, the red sox are going to win

2 Because they're not very good
