bedises the fact that the government will tax the hell out of it--
it seems that alcohol is just as widely abused and causes people to do things they wouldn't normally do. although, I don't believe a person should drive under the influence of ANY drug, you never hear of people being killed by stoned drivers. Or people causing fights because they were stoned. Any groups like MA (marijuana anonymous)?? What is the crime/accident rate in Amsterdam? I wonder if the government ever looked at Amsterdam at all.

They can't tax pot, so they will not legalize it. Our "great" country is much more interested in turning a tidy profit than in listening to the wishes of it's people.

It seems the government doesn't want to reverse it's stand on any illegal drug. Even with documented proof that it helps medical conditions like glaucoma and the side effects of chemo, it won't budge. I think that's downright cruel.
Growing up in the mid 70's, its was just ignored by authorities, unless you had a big amt. A friend's father who was a policeman said they preferred people to smoke weed rather than drink, because pot smokers were mellow and drunks were rowdy and destructive. No one should drive under the influence.

Because law enforcement makes allot of money off of it. In my state for example, if you get caught with just one joint, it's like a 1200 dollar fine. That's allot of money for the corrupt law enforcement and politicians around. That's the only reason, because they make more than if they tax it. And people say you can't tax it because it's so easy to grow your own. Well, tomatoes are easy to grow too, but I'd rather just go buy them at the store, much less hassle, and potheads would do the same.

When are people going to learn that the only way to control drugs is to legalize them. At least you could put an age limit on it and get the drugs out of the schoolyards. Prohibition only creates crime. Legalization would put the street dealers out of business, lower the price of drugs so maybe crackheads wouldn't have to rob people to feed their addiction, and people wouldn't have to worry about drug tests at work so they could actually work to feed their habit instead of stealing.

I mean look at street gangs, most of them make their money by selling drugs, lets legalize all drugs and put these guys out of business.

I think that we as humans should not be controlled in any way whatsoever when it comes to things that we choose to do to our body. When it comes to harming others of course that is different. But what gives the government the right to be judge and jury? How can it be legal to drown yourself in Jagermeister (if you're of age) but not smoke a few bowls? I mean, if it's legal to get messed up one way why not in every way? God put hops on the earth, and we made beer, he put tobacco here, and we made cigarettes, then we tried smoking every plant and we came across marijuana, then we smoked the joint. What is it's purpose here if it's so bad for you?

out of all the problems we need to fix over here...weed is on the bottom of the list..people still abuse alcohol...why would we legalize another thing for people to abuse? Teenagers illegally drink beer and drink.Adults drink and drive! Why would weed be any diffrent? We can regulate alcohol they why add another problem to the mix..i mean really..kids are at school sniffing adderall and drinking cough syrup...please legalize weed..its not gonna happen!

marijuana is still illegal because it started that way and now supports a booming law enforcement industry, alcohol is legal because it started that way, they tried to make it illegal (prohibition) and that was a huge mistake bringing organized crime to the surface in a huge way, I agree with you but hundreds of lawmakers and enforcers don't, mostly for monetary reasons.

Alcohol was banned in the U.S. from 1920 to 1933. Prohibition, as it was called, was very unpopular and was considered a failure, as it led to high levels of crime.
