Whatever surgery she had, it was something that meant she couldn't eat afterwards and lost weight as a result. Maybe dental or tonsils? Here's an excerpt from an interview:
"(Q)You lost weight over the course of the movie. Were you asked to do that?
(A)They actually asked me to gain weight for the movie. I had just recovered from surgery and I couldn't eat anything and I'd lost all this weight. I was really, really a twig.
How did you put on the pounds?
Just pizza, beer – just trying to condense your freshman year into four weeks. So then I go to my first costume fitting and Pat Fields goes, "Not gonna work." I'm like, what do you mean? And she's like, "You have to wear couture. You need to be 120." And at the moment I was 130. So I was like, "For the love of Pete!"

Well, she got a coupon for Lasik surgery for being a presenter at an awards show...maybe she got that done?!

maybe plastic that is what they have to do to maintain there job. looking younger.
