I've used both. A lot and often. In my experience, Mac runs faster and works more efficiently than Windows without any work done to it. Now I have seen Windows machines made to run faster than it started off doing so, but that was entirely the owner tearing it apart and making his own CPU, but then it was still just as fast as the Mac was in the first place. After all that money and work put into it, he had invested more into making his own CPU than it would've cost to get an Apple. There are no longer any programs that run on Windows that cannot be run on a Mac due to the Bootcamp but if the program was that vital, they made it for Mac before, people were just too lazy to go anywhere besides Wal-mart to buy their software. Do I even need to bring up the lack of viruses, spyware and all that other nasty crap that millions of people waste their time checking and fixing?

The games thing, I forgot to put previous, is a waste of time. I have seen many many new games that run on Mac and the only reason that they take six months to a year longer to come out for Mac is because they fix the bugs in the games that you encounter all the time on Windows. They make consoles for games. I know, not all computer games come out on console, but I think that's about to change.

I'm going to make an essay out of this yet....

Programs...Mac has them. Plus you can run XP on Macs now, though I don't see why you'd want to other than if you really like Paint that much....You also get a lot more programs on the Mac when you buy it. A lot of programs that aren't made for windows and that windows has nothing like. They also work more easily than those made for Windows in my experience..man I hope that this is the last edit for this...

Because they've not used a mac!

One of the other answers says " Windows is better....i've never used a mac" That pretty much sums it up for me.

Most people who use pc's have never spent much time using a mac. Their opinions are based on things they have heard or assumed, and are generally wrong. The Mac vs PC question appears on here all the time, and every time I see clueless people saying complete rubbish about macs. "You can only use one mouse button on a mac" "You can hardly get any software for a mac" "Macs are for people who don't know how to use computers properly" "Macs are only good for graphic design" Etc etc. It's all total rubbish.

The only person who's going to give you an objective answer is somebody who's spent a lot of time using both.

99.99% of the people i know who have spent a lot of time using a mac prefer them, 99.99% of the people i know who prefer pc's have never used a mac. I prefer macs and have used pc's for over ten years. The best things about a mac can only be discovered by actually using them. It's not just to do with the technical specifications or software you use - it's about the whole experience of actually using the computer. Everything about macs is cleverly thought out, even after using them for years I still find new features all the time. For me life on a mac is just so much better than life on a pc. I really find it hard to understand how people can put up with using windows. Using it just makes me want to throw my pc out of the window.

On my mac I can do everything I could do on a pc (and more) and it's so much easier to do it. If you buy a device like a printer or digital camera, you just plug it in and it works. No need for drivers. If you decide to format your computer, it's a simple and hassle free process on a mac. It's a nightmare on a pc, trying to find all the drivers and stuff takes ages. Thinks like getting on the internet or setting up a network are much easier on a mac. I bought a wireless modem and had my mac on the net within 30 secs of taking the modem, it took about half an hour of installing software and messing around to get my pc on the net. All of the software and hardware is designed to work together, so there's never time wasted trying to get things to work, it just works.
I can't really think of any reason to buy a pc. Macs can be more expensive, but you get what you pay for. Macs are not made out of the cheapest parts, like most pcs - macs are built to last.
I just read something the other day where someone had compared the new macbook to the most similarly specced Dell laptop, and the Dell was actually more expensive. So money is not the issue here. Macs come with loads of stuff as standard that pc's don't tend to come with, like bluetooth and wireless. If you take all these things into account Macs are not expensive at all. The fact that macs can run OSX and Windows means that you are effectively getting a mac and a high quality pc for your money.

People say that macs aren't upgradable, but most of the major parts can be upgraded, particularly on new macs. What percentage of people actually upgrade their pc anyway, most people just use it for a few years untill it gets clogged up with crap then throw it away and by a new one. By the time a pc needs upgraded your better off buying a new one. Most people are too scared to even do something like change the RAM on their computer, so they are more than likely gonna have to pay loads of money for someone else to upgrade it anyway. My work still uses 8 year old imac and they run the latest version of the oparating system, where are all the 8 year old pc's?
From my point of view there is loads of great software for the mac that you can't get for the pc, but i can't think of anything that is pc only that there isn't something the same as or better than on the mac.
If i wanted to play games i'd just buy a games console or install windows on my mac.
You don't have to worry about viruses or spyware on a mac, crashes are virtually a thing of the past. My Macbook Pro has never even come close to crashing. I find anti-virus software slows your system down a lot, so it's great if you don't have to use it. Even after several years without being formatted my G5 mac still runs like a dream, it never freezes, slows down or needs restarted.
It is possible to have a stable, fast pc - but it's a lot of hassle. You'd have to spend a lot of time looking after it, keeping software to a minimum, keeping it away from the internet, keeping your hard drive clean and tidy, and you'd really have to know what you were doing. Running antivirus and a cleanup wizard is not enough to keep your pc at it's optimum performance, particularly considering the way most people treat computers. It's something that you don't have to worry about on a mac. Another advantage of macs is that most software is contained entirely within one file or icon, it doesn't install bits and pieces all over your hard drive, so if you want to remove a program you just click on it and press delete and all traces of it are gone! It's far too difficult to remove all traces of something from your pc, and it's far too easy to delete something thats really important.
Apple have one countless awards for innovation and design, many of there products are considered design classics. I've yet to see a pc that actually looks good. Most pc's that have been customised to look "cool" just look really cheesy. The equivelant of people who buy a crap car and spend loads of money customising it with stickers, huge spoilers, fancy lights and various other tasteless crap. Macs look great straight out of the box.

There's loads more stuff I could write but this is getting a bit long as it is, so just do a search for mac on yahoo answers for plenty more info, or see the "get a mac" section on the apple website.

At the end of the day pc's are still alright, and loads of people are happy using them, but loads of people don't know any better.

I'd really like to hear one good reason to buy a pc, I really can't think of any.

Because I can actually run Games and Programs on Windows! If you are a gamer, or someone who uses a lot of different types of software you are severely limited on a MAC which only has 10 year old games and small software offerings at best.

I also build my own PC's from scratch, the parts are cheap and easily replacable. Try replacing a MAC part on your own? Spend either 10 times the amount of a PC part to do it, or just toss the thing in the trash and buy a new MAC. No thanks, I'll take the cheaper and readily available PC parts. Macs also just got Intel processors, but before that they were far slower than my dual core 64 bit Athlon powered system, I don't have exact numbers but compared to my friends Mac the boot time on my machine was like 20 seconds faster at least.

If you know what your doing, use a hardware firewall via a router and spyware scanners, PC's with Window's is the way to go.

You may want to do a little more research other than just liking one thing better than another. It's a lot like a car, some folks like Ford others prefer Toyota. I personally owned 4 different Windows based PCs from Gateway, Sony, HP, and Dell. I wouldn't ever own any of the first 3 mentioned, they were all junk and substandard in performance and service. Dell is an exception because they use top of the line products inside and don't use reconditioned components that were junk to begin with, like Gateway, and others. All windows based computers still suffer from Viruses, Trojans, and all manners of Mal-ware. Mac's don't. Yes Mac's have primarily been used for design, and Graphics. Did you ever wonder why? They chose to go a different direction than Windows. Where do you suppose the idea of the windows operating system was copied from.(Apple) If windows based operating systems were of the quality of there Professional Software, there would be far less problems. You see, Large Major Corporations simply would not tolerate this. They would go back to using a paper and pencil. Has it ever struck you as odd that they never seem to suffer from the same anomalies and problems that we the public suffer from. We as Microsoft Windows users have been duped in my opinion. We should be able to buy a product that can not be Hacked, or manipulated, just for grins. Again Mac doesn't suffer from this same foolishness. The sole purpose of these clowns is to disrupt as many windows users as they can, and there very well may be an underlying ulterior motive, besides just having fun, what do they have to gain. Unless, as many believe that all of this has been done by the Manufactures of Virus Software's to sell and keep selling there products. Does it strike you odd that Apple's products and Operating Systems don't suffer from these same issues. I could go on for days, but it's best I stop, I'm done. Do the research.

In my field, everyone thinks Mac is better than PC, I don't know what you're talking about-- or my people needs to meet your people. PC can be built and upgraded by everyone (very simple to do) but Mac can't. but other than that Mac has the look and the power... (PC has soooo much bugs and it is a pain...) I have a PC because Mac is not AutoCAD or Rhinoceros compatible, 2 softwares that I really really need for architecture. I love mac, but I have a PC because of the software problem. (Virtual PC slows down the mac, don't want to downgrade the fast mac just so that I can have a program run meant for the PC.)

I think it's that people are more familiar with PCs, and scared of Macs. People who hate Macs have never used one, and hurl unsubstantiated, fallacious indignities at them, without realizing the grandeur lying within the beautiful computer.

My, my what a rant. Since PCs have about 94% of the market it seems your question is superfluous.
