With the HIPPA laws you probably will not get info over the phone. If your bro is in hospital & lists you as emergency contact then it is highly likely that you can receive some info but to get record info, he must sign a permission to disclose medical records in order for you to receive it.

If you are referring to patient account number then no! HIPPA laws (health information privacy and portability act) prohibits any release of medical information without patients consent unless they are a minor and you are their guardian....if you are a minor female and are pregnant then you are considered emancipated and your parnets cant get your health information from that moment on with your consent. If your brother is an adult the only way that you will get this info is by asking him only, and if you are an employee of the hospital that he went to then you will be putting your job at risk if you use your privileges to access information that is not needed to do your job.......so be careful.......just ask him and if he wont tell you then i am sorry and that is his right. If he is a minor then ask your parents to investigate.

Absolutely not. Have you not heard of the HIPAA privacy act. Even before that, medical businesses were not allowed to indicate even that a patient is there at all. They cannot give out any information you or anyone else. Who's to say it is not his boss's wife calling, or a neighbor. Call you brother, tell him you care a lot, and ask why he went.

HEPA rules will protect his reason for being in the hospital. You can't gain access to that information, even with an account number.
