Today at my 36 week doctors appointment my doctor said the baby was too high. And if the baby were to drop past my pubic bone that I wouldn't be so uncomfortable from the pressure. Are there ways to get the baby to drop down lower? Or will that only happen when I go into labor. This is my 3rd pregnancy and with my first two I went overdue and was induced. I'm hoping having the baby drop would help me to go on time for this delivery, but mostly I just want to be comfortable for the next month.

I guess for some people I need to specify. That I'm not wanting to have the baby to drop down for labor. My doctor says I'm measuring 4 inches too high, and that the baby shouldn't be on my pubic bone. Like it's not normal and I should be lower. And I wouldn't do anything to harm the baby just for my comfort. Plus I already have shart pains in my groin because of this, that my doctor says would go away with the baby a little lower. Thanks.

I think the doctor meant the baby was 4 cm (just under 2") too high. That's how they measure fundal height. Still unpleasant, but 4" would be cause for more serious concern.
If you have access to a doula or midwife, work with her on exercises designed to get the baby in the right position for delivery. One was mentioned earlier (getting on all 4s, relaxing and massaging), but there are others. If you don't have access to someone to help you (many Lamaze instructors are trained in this, as well) then you can ask your doctor for a referral.
Also make sure you're lying on your left side with a pillow between your knees when you're sleeping. This helps you relax more, puts the baby away from the inferior vena cava, and takes the stress of your muscles and ligaments.

If I were you I'd be happy the baby was so high up. My son was so low during the last month of my pregnancy I could barely walk. There was a lot of sharp, shooting pains in my groin area from his head being so low. Your infant will drop when it is ready to, there's not much you can do to force it. Some women don't drop until the week or two before they give birth. Good Luck to you with this pregnancy though. I'm sure everything will go fine.

You can not force a baby to drop . The baby drops when your body and the baby is ready for it to drop . By pregnancy #3 you should know this. Some babies drop early and some don't . My first 2 dropped about 10 minutes after I started pushing once I was completely dialated and efaced. I wouldn't try pushing on or messing with anything as you could cause problems with the placenta . As sad and as cold as it may sound , as a mother you know your comfort right now is not what is important , what matters is that baby's health.

I am 38 weeks with #2. I would say walking, that helped with my 1st. They say the motion of walking helps drop the baby down into the pelvis. But no matter what you do the baby will come when it comes.

Lots of walking will help the baby to drop. Not much else other than time, but dropping will just cause you to have pressure down there. Either way you'll have pressure, but at least you'll know you're on your way to delivering.

I heard do a lot of standing and walking and that should make the baby drop...then again...I'm 38 weeks and mine hasn't dropped yet. But I havent made a valid effort to stay standing and walk a lot so maybe it does work.
