Why do children always whine about getting something when they go into a store?

Children have a short attention span and are easily bored while shopping. By whining they get rewarded in several ways. First it gives them something to do. Second they get attention, even if it may be negative. And third, children have learned the end result is that they will get something they are asking for to keep them quiet.
Therefore there are few negatives for the child changing his or her behavior.

Because parents allow it, back when the child was younger, the parent would give the child anything just to shut them up.

Now the child beleives that this is an acceptable way of asking for things, and the backup to being turned down, is to throw a temper tantrum, even if it means embarrasing the parents in public.

This is why children should not be allowed to go shopping with parents unless its for the purpose of buying clothes or shoes for the child, and the child needs to try them on.

Because they feel if they whine it will break mom down to get them something each time they go to the store with you. And the usually do.
They are told if your good I will get you..... then they are still getting something. Gotcha again.

Because they are good consumers. From age 0 they are taught to buy things. And after all, the reason you went to the store was to buy things. They simply want something for themselves. kids in general are greedy and selfish(good behavior must be taught).....

bc they get all the attention and they expect to get it bc they are sooooo small and cute!
