go to advance or napa auto parts supplier.
and get a haynes repair manual on the vehicle.
it will tell you which hoses to feel and see if the water is flowing through the engine correctly

Check to see if it has a thermostat and clean the surfaces. Put in a new gasket. Check or leaks around the water pump and the pump itself. Check to see if the water pump bearings are worn by trying to wiggle the drive pulley sideways. On the bottom of many pumps is a little hole called a "weep hole." Check to see if anything is coming from this.
If the engine has many miles on it, and this may be the original water pump, I suggest putting a rebuilt pump on. I repeat, make sure all surfaces are clean and there is no old gasket material left.
I have used Permatex 6b form-a-gasket (blue glue) in conjunction with the paper gaskets.
Good luck!

If your water pump only leaks a little, you could try 2 things to get more life out of it if you don't want to change it now.
1. Add a seal conditioner to your radiator, it may bring back the seals enough to stop the leak.
2. Add a stop leak product to your radiator. Again, it may seal the leaking areas for a while.
The thermostat missing will only make your engine take longer to come up to temperature, possibly costing you extra gas during warm up and making winter trip colder for longer. I wouldn't worry about it until you have to change your water pump.

If it has no thermostat the collant would be circulating all the time.If the pump leaks even a small amount, have it changed and get a 'stat in it or you WILL have further problems.
