The current administration set a goal of Moon 2020 and Mars 2030. To send a mission to Mars by 2015 would be unbelievably expensive, as we still need many new technologies to be invented before we can go for a reasonable price.

Two words: "no" and "way"
The technical challenges are, I think, underestimated but solvable. The bigger problem is that this country doesn't have the will to do it.
And frankly, there's not a lot of reason to do it. Robot vehicles have been doing a fine job so far. Why blow billions and billions on landing a man on Mars when a robot can do the job almost as effectively?

No. Both Scientific American and Discover have done stories in recent months about cosmic rays (fast moving protons) and other space particles that would harm and probably kill astronauts on a long voyage in deep space. No good technology is coming down the pipe for shielding space craft, so it will take a few breakthroughs before we're on our way to the Red Planet. But then isn't that what the space program is for? Tang anyone?

No I read that there is a mission from NASA to go to mars in 2020 but there will defanitly have a sort of base built by rovers before a human steps on Mars.

There are some who think that we have never been to the moon yet. That it was just a big video production. So take your video camera and film a Mars landing just remember the backgound should be red.

I don't even think that we landed on the Moon in the sixties. I believe that if it is ever announced that we have landed on Mars, it will be another hoax filmed in a sound studio in Hollywood.

Have you been reading the news lately. We are already there with rovers and stuff. What is really something to think about
is the fact that we put items of interest on that planet that the average citizen doesn't know or care about. I have a feeling we have already colonized that planet in preparation for mass exist out of here in case the world ends as we know it. Who knows !
