Do the Americans make any good cars, or are they bottom of the pile?

America makes great cars! The problem is they are engineered to last only slightly longer than their warranty periods and sometimes the warranties aren't worth the paper they're written on!

What ever American car you buy, you should get rid of it before 100,000 miles. I also believe you should never buy new so we are talking about owning a car starting with somewhere under 10,000 miles and ditching the car at around 90,000 miles. Hmmm, a grand total of 80,000 miles. Gee, I put close to 15,000 miles on a car in a year. That means I would only own the car for 5 years before I would have to consider getting rid of it.

And that, is exactly what American automobile manufacturers want you to do. If that is appealing to you, go for it! I love some of the new American retro cars bringing the muscle car era back into vogue. It's too bad my practical side tells me to buy a Honda! After all, all I am doing is hauling myself around. I can't afford to impress strangers with my wheels!

Yes and no. There are some surprising models that have held up. The Ford Focus for one. Good longevity, mileage at a bargain price. We have lacked on the styling end but made up for it on the functionality end. Like bigger cup holders for our Megasized drinks. I buy foreign, but that has bit me in the *** in the past. I would not consider us the bottom of the pile, we have the Koreans still.

Corvettes are fast and cheap.

The American car companies are addicted to big SUVs for their big profits. Unfortunately, that puts them at a disadvantage when gas prices go up.

The Shelby GT500 and Cobra, Ford GT40, and Saleen S7 were or are manufactured in the U.S.

All American...and all highly sought-after in the world car market.

American auto makers even manufacture Land Rover, Jaguar, and Mazda.

So I'd say we're doing pretty well for ourselves. ;)

By European standards they are very old technology suited to your type of road system.It depends on what you call good and is therfore a subjective answer.
