I think the Bush's democracy plan is nothing but a nightmare because the President is imposing America's will on the whole world. That is nothing but a problem for that 2000 election-stealing punk! He knew the rest of the world has turned against him! This idea is backfiring. If the other countries wanted democracy, then they should turn to us, not the other way around! Had either Gore or Kerry won the election in 2000 or '04 respectively, things would've been the same during the Clinton years. And now look what Bush has done so far. It would take several years for this mess to get cleaned up! Thank you, Bush!

Doing the right thing doesn't always bring friends (look at Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Jr., etc. : good men have been killed for doing good things).

That said, America has also abused its power that it has gained over the past three hundred years, becoming somewhat imperialistic, even in its democracy. If only a leader could come to the United States that could champion a truly worthy cause that all the people could get behind and support, we would be able to gain friends in the international community for using our power for the good of the world. Instead, we have pretty much served our own ambitions, which is never the best plan for making friends.

Nah, it went wrong saying one thing and doing another. We're a capitalist nation before we're a democracy. And we're trying to get into economically viable situations before we're trying to install democracy and freedom. We happen to have pretty good story about how the two go hand-in-hand, but we never get it straight which one we're more interested in.

None of this would be an issue if we were just honest about our intentions-- everyone knows it and nobody is saying it. That's what hurts us, because we then have to invest obscene amounts of energy and resources backpedalling and lying, which in turn leads to more backpedalling and lying, etc. All to save face.

Economic and political policy of the future-- call it what it is.

The shameful act of trying to impose a democracy on another country at gun point automatically makes any country with democratic principles a hypocrite and does not help its image around the world at all. America went wrong when it listened to all those politicians in Washington on the far right with imperialistic goals in mind. I recommend you go to this website and learn what these men had and have in mind for the world. The website is, www.newamericancentury.org

I think the problem is that america tried to force a belief structure on an area that wasn't essentially ready for it. Democracy tends to arise on it's on in cultures that are mentally ready for it. Any where that democracy is forced on the common people without proper explanation or prepardness you end up with a tyranny, or dictatorship in short order. Look at a lot of South America in the early part of the twentieth century.

Because america is switching over to imperialism. This whole "spread democracy" is really just a way to spread it's empire, which was started in the cold war as a method of containment as they feared a communist revolution would take over their resources. America is only half-heartedly trying to install democracy, as it is more trying to spread it's sphere of influence in the market, and to spread it's ideaoligy around. America is also one of the major consumers and hoarders in the world, wasting materials. It is a nation, which have massive military and nuclear power, that wants all other countries to disarm themselves....how can that not inspire hate?

Most country's become a democracy from the inside . Their people over through and throw out the old government and put in the new one . That didn't happen in Iraq . We (not Iraq's people ) invaded and threw out the government and replaced it . Now we occupy that country . We are hypocrites and that is what makes other country's enemies , their anger with us . They think we were wrong to do that What does that make us , invaders , war mongers ???

Spreading democracy sounds like a good idea, but its not necessarily for all nations. As far as I can figure, some of these countries are not civilized enough to handle democracy anyway, or they would be there already. I feel like we need to focus a bit more on our own country's problems i.e. poverty, education, and economy.

Failure to hold people accountable for their actions and by doing this creating a society of victims. Victims that are not accountable for their actions and that are paid for by US tax dollars. Failure to educate or youth in schools about sex, money, love, religion and general live experiences. A double standard of law for the rich that creates so much power that people will literally kill to be rich to do what they want to. The silencing of religion we can no longer have fellowship without someone being offended. Millions of law suits from hot coffee and any other small thing.

Take you pick, there is more but why bother?
