Why does the Italian football team play in Blue when blue isn't in their national flag?, i know that their nickname is THE AZZURI,(& that Azure is italian for Blue? but what is the link?

The Italian national team wears blue because it is the color of
Savoia, the ruling house of Italy from 1861 to 1946. Until the end of the second world war, the Italian flag always had the Savoy coat of arms in the center, and it was only after the family were overthrown,and the Italian Republic established in 1946, that the plain tricolor was adopted as the national flag.

The reason Italy wears blue is to represent the Royal family. In fact there are a few countries that do the same as someone else mentioned. And with a name like 'Colin'.... you must be so bitter that the USA or Canada isn't even in the World Cup. So I have a question for you: What do you know about soccer anyway? We Italians have a name for people like you: Mangia Cakes.... you know what that means that you only eat cake So go cut yourself a slice buddy!

Sky blue was the color of the Royal House of the Kingdom of Italy. The traditional colour of the national team (as well as of all Italian teams and athletes, except in motor sports) is sky blue (azzurro, in Italian), and therefore national team members are nicknamed Azzurri.

Not exactly sure the reason - may be in their team's past. However, traditionally they are known as the Azzuri (Italian for Blue)

There will be reason for it, somewhere in the past. THey are not the only team doing so, Holland plays in orange while the flag is Red/White/Blue... Their reason is royalty, its the House of Orange on the throne

It has to do with the oceans and the blue water of Italy. I'm pretty sure that's the reason why they are called the Azzurri.
