Hi. I'm very sorry to hear you failed your classes. I have had a great career in the music industry - I've worked with Madonna, Aerosmith, Joni Mitchell and many other great artists. I now compose music for network television. I would most definitely attribute my success to my education. Not only does education teach you what you need to know, it shows you how to learn. Education builds your self esteem. It inspires you to find and explore - you will be free to think and try anything. On top of all this - it shows other people that you are dependable, responsible and someone worth taking a chance on. So.... no matter what you do in life I would VERY STRONGLY recommend you take your education seriously. Bring those grades up, have fun at it and you will thank yourself over and over when you get older. Good Luck!

You need to do the following:
1. Prioritize and don't procrastinate: Know what is important and tackle those tasks first. If you know you have a report due, start early. Don't blow it off to hang with your friends, and end up staying up all night the night before to do it. Haste makes waste.

2. Develop time management skills: This goes along with the above tip. Know how to use your time wisely. If you have a math test, don't spend all your time doing other, less important things, such as watching TV or hanging out. Time is precious, so make sure you don't waste it. Of course you need time to relax, so once you get home from school, take about 20 minutes to grab a snack and change clothes (or whatever it is you need to do), and then start your homework. If you are involved in other activities such as sports, or academic/special interest clubs, include that in your schedule. For example:

3:00-school dismissed
3:15-4:15-Student Government meeting
4:30-4:50-Arrive home, have snack
4:50-7:00-homework
7:00-7:30-Dinner
7:30-9:00-more homework/studying
9:00-9:20-shower and prepare for bed

3. Develop good study habits: do your reading, homework, and studying on time. Do not cram for an exam. Do not try to complete homework in class, the day its due. Its called homework for a reason. If it is Monday and you know you have an exam Friday, don't wait to study Thursday night. Consider this:
Monday: find out you have a test Friday. Study for about 2 hours that night. *make sure you do your other homework too*

Tuesday: Study more...1 1/2-2 hours. *make sure you do your other homework too*
Wednesday: Quiz yourself or have someone quiz you
Thursday: Quick brush-up/refresher. This shouldn't be intense studying, as you have studied earlier this week.*make sure you do your other homework too*
Friday: ace your exam

Also, if you are having trouble in a particular subject, DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP!! Ask your teacher, a classmate/friend, family member or seek tutoring afterschool or during lunch.

Also, make sure you have a quiet workplace to study and do homework. Make sure it is free from distractions (TV, telephone, etc). If someone is bothering you, such as a sibling, let them know you are doing homework and let your parents know as well.
Good luck!

Study a little and leave the boys and other social stuff behind until you get on track. Keeping your mind focused on school will be what helps you have a better future. I'll tell you what and who won't help you later in life ... hanging at the mall and that oh so cute boy who diggs you, both of those will care less 10 years from now when you're trying to make car payments and rents due.

First off, talk to your teachers. Explain to them that you want to do better, and ask their advice on how to do it.

Second, why did you fail your finals? Did you not study, did you freeze up on the exam, or what? Some people just don't do well on tests; in extreme cases, they get phobic about taking them. If that's the case you might want to talk to your family doctor or to a counselor at school.

If you just didn't study, well, that's another story! Find other students who do well in your classes and ask them for help, or see if you can get a tutor, or (here's a thought) ask your parents if they'd be willing to help you study.

It sounds like you had a bad case of test anxiety for your finals.

Study for your tests for at least the couple days before the test, instead of cramming the night before or that morning. The night before your test, go to bed early, make sure you eat breakfast, and try to relax. If you know someone in your class who's willing, have a study night when you both get together and help quiz each other on the subject.

You make me want to cry, little girl. You are 14, just starting adolescence, and you DO need a tutor. You should also just study your books and avoid this addictive Yahoo game.

Strange changes happen at puberty, and your academic
mal-performance might be caused by this.

Tomorrow's another day. When you start high school, pay attention to the teachers, not the other students.
"Knuckle down". Find yourself.

If you really don't like academic work, the high school will have counselors for you--also free tutors.

Don't forget your parents. Ask them this: "Mom, Dad, if you want me to get high grades, are YOU willing to sit down and help me do that?"

See what they can offer.
It's easy for parents to make demands. But it is also part of their job to help you fulfill them.

I pray for you. + :-)

I was always notoriously bad in school. i think it was my junior year I decided I WANTED to do good. so what I did was get organized. I set up a desk in my bedroom with my calculator pencils and pens and everything that i could need for doing homework right there in an organized fashion. and I got all the best materials for school. binders with deviders for all my classes and I put everything in its place. came home and did my homework faithfully everyday. I got the honor roll the first quarter high honors the second and did really well all around that year.

You need a better study method. Maybe you are not a good test taker. Keep all your notes from every quarter, go over them constantly to memorize them, make the same time every day study time, even on weekends, ask for help when you need it, ask your parents or friends to study with you, make flash cards, read over your chapters 2 or 3 times so you get it...

Get used to it, college is no joke.

ask questions until you understand that subject. form study groups with your peers. Check out retirement homes for volunteer tutors, ask your parents for assistance. Most important is to have confidence in yourself. Last year was just that. last year. You can do it. It may be hard but anything worthwhile in life is a challenge. One step at a time and you will SUCCEED!!!

Keep up with all your old tests and notes. Exam questions usually come from these. During the days before the exam, write down every review question and start studying.
Keep an agenda with all your assignments in it.
