I'm getting my braces off next month. braces only hurt for the first 3 days after u get them, and three days after they change your wire, after that i didn't really have problems....if u have to wear rubber bands dont wear them for 2 days when u first get them so that your teeth can get used to the new wire then after 2 days wear them all the time and change them 3 or 4x a day: when u get up, early afternoon, and before u go to bed - the more u wear them the less they hurt ; ) brush your teeth really well (it helps 2 kinda angle the toothbrush to get above and below the brackets) and....do EXACTLY what your orthodontist says - i'm getting my braces 2 or 3 months early just because I wore my rubber bands a lot and did what the orthodontist said......so good luck with braces and i hope u have a nice smile! =)

p.s. dont believe all the horror stories about braces hurting a lot - they don't

p.p.s. dont believe what "rockstar" just said if you brush your teeth 2x/day and there isn't any plaque there is NO chance of getting marks on your teeth - and that came straight from the orthodontist's mouth lol!

The first day you will be fine, maybe a little soar. Take some Advil or something and you will be fine. The next couple days your teeth will be soar. Take the Advil or whatever. After a few days, you will be just fine. Do exactly what you ortho tells you to do and before you know it, your braces will come off and you will have beautiful teeth. More tha likely you will get retainers after the braces to keep your teeth from moving. Usually the retainers are worn for at least a year.

Don't be afraid and just remember what the outcome will be.

Stop worrying so much. I can only assume, because you posted two questions related to braces, that you just found out you have to get them. My guess is that you are a young girl and are worried what they will make you look like. That's pretty typical in today's society! Anyway, braces are a good thing and straighten out your teeth. This makes you look 100% more attractive when you are older. Who cares what you look like when you are 11 or 12 years old! Get them, deal with the hassle for a couple years and be done with it.

Teeth do not correct themselves. This means you either grow up with crooked teeth (which is very unattractive) or you have to get them when you are older (which is very embarrising). It's embarrassing becasue most people get them when they are your age. Just listen to your orthodontist...he knows what is best for your teeth.

Finally, many people cannot afford braces. You should feel privalaged that your family can afford them.

There are different types of them, some stay in your mouth and others go around your head (head gear)!!!! You can get 3 different colors, silver, gold, and clear!!! You don't want clear cause every time you eat you can see the food that is stuck in your teeth that whole day until you brush your teeth!!! I had silver and that is the best to get!!!
When you get then put on, don't be surprised if it hurts like Heck for at least 2 weeks!!! The only things that you get to eat during that amount of time is anything soft!!! It includes Ice cream, the best part of it!!! Lol!!! Every 3-6 weeks they will tighten them and it will hurt worse than them putting them on!!! If your teeth are really bad then they will stay on for more than two years!!! You will hate them until they are tooken off!!! But when they come off you will love them cause they made your teeth as pretty as can be!!!
If some one told you that if you don't brush you teeth everyday you will get stains, well they are wrong you get stains no matter how many times you brush your teeth!!! After they come off you are going to have to get a retainer!!! Just make sure you keep hold of them and know where they are every single minute of the day!!! It cost alot of money to get another one made!!!! Trust me I've lost mine about 4 or 5 times!!!!

K i am wearing retainers . i wore braces for 1 and a half years . 12 to 13 . it is not painful just scratches some times where the iwre is and you have got to brush your teeth regularly if you want to prevent cavaties cause now i am undergoing a ROOT CANAl . you wont get bad breath. the first few days take a liquid diet and try to speak fluently as you might develop lisps . i think thatas about it and dont eat any thing hard . i broke my wire once just cause i ate an apple and choose your rubberband color .

lets see, when i had spacers, it hurt like crazy! Couldnt eat for a month. Afterwards when they put the braces on there was a little pain but you get used to it. It hurt me because my teeth were really crowded. If you dont have as much crowding then it won't hurt you as much. Braces arent that bad except for the occasional pain and the wires that poke you (but thats why they give you wax).

I had train tracks for 2 years and they hurt for a couple of days after getting them fitted. I found that i couldn't eat certain food, although i know people who have had them and still eaten food they shouldn't have! Make sure that you also make an appointment when you start to feel the wire getting too long at the back of your mouth as i didn't and it ended up giving me some of the worse mouth ulcers ever. Personally i am glad that i had them as i now have straight teeth.

I would get invisible ones, like invisilign, because if you are still in highschool, memories like dances will not be ruined with metal teeth. If you are older, metal braces can get in the way with food or meeting people and invisible ones are usually removable for when you eat...my neighbor got them and i am definately getting those too.

Most important thing I can tell you is - it is worth wearing braces because you will have lovely straight teeth.

Make sure you clean your teeth extra well while wearing them, I had to have filling in my teeth because I didn't take extra care and bacteria can get stuck around the braces.

But my teeth are straight!!
