I want to get pregnant next summer, I am going off birth control pills in January. I have been on birth control pills for 6 years straight, will it take me a long time to conceive?

Were you on birth control pills for many years? How long before your cycle went back to normal? What was your experience like?

I was on birth control for about 7 years before I tried to conceive. It took me 3 years off the pill before I was able to conceive.

This is me, though - every person is different, and the doses of estrogen/progestren in the pills when I began taking them (mid-1970's) was higher than it typically is today.

Every body's chemical system is different. I would ask my doctor the same question, and let them know what type of birth control pill you were taking. They will have a better "guestimate" than anyone on line here who is not a doctor.

Don't panic, take your time, enjoy your relationship without adding pressure to conceive. It can take a while! After my first pregnancy, which to me took so long, I was pregnant 3 years in a row (sometimes I longed for the pill!). They are grown, healthy young men, and the wait was worth it entirely.

Good Luck!

I took the pill for five years and it took me six months to get pregnant. My cycle pretty much stayed normal, I think I may have started my period a couple of days late a few times. My mother on the other hand got pregnant with me one month after quiting the pill. So everyone is different. Best wishes and good luck!

When I was in my 20's it happened right away....now that I am 38 it took a while. I am now 9 weeks along. This is my standard answer......... go get a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive. My Doctor recommended it to me and after 1 year of trying I got the book. It worked the very next month. It turns out that my timing was wrong due to mis-information. I hope it helps you, too! It's not only about getting pregnant. It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths!

I was on BC pills for 8 years straight before I even tried to get pregnant. I took me over seven months to get pregnant the first time and I lost that pregnancy. I went back on the pill for about six months and then tried again and it took me about five months to get pregnant that time. That one took, my daughter is now 3.

I actually felt much better when I went off of the pills. I didn't feel as run down and I also did not have headaches like I do when I am on the pill. My cycle was irregular, but that's normal for me.

Don't forget to start taking your pre-natal vitamins even before you get pregnant. I took mine for almost a year before.

Good Luck.

I was on Birth control from Nov. 1999 to Aug. 2004. I conceived on Oct. 6, 2004.

I was on BC for about 5 years and when I got off the pill I did gain weight. I was pregnant in early Oct. and had the baby in June of 2005 (he just turned 1). It was very easy for me. My skin did break out because I used Ortho tri cyclen and it helps me with my skin. Other than that, I had no problems.

I was on the pill for about 3 years and I decided to take a couple of weeks off of taking them and my period didn't come the very next month 'cause I was pregnant and according to my baby I got pregnant sometime during those two weeks after I stop taking my pills.

I was on birth control for 12 years. I went off the pill in January, had a normal period in february, and conceived in March. I'm 16.5 weeks pregnant now. We were very laid back about etting pregnant, we just let nature take it's course and tried n ot to worry about it. I was trying to conceive in the summer time, but my body was ready for baby, so we're thrilled...

I too was very concerned that it would take me a long time to get pregnant, but i was very lucky. Hopefully you will have the same luck too! Best wishes for a speedy pregnancy when you're ready!

Different people different bodies diffeerent results, BUT they say it only takes 1 month to get it out of your system you should be pregnant easily by next summer as long as everything is in working order. I had problems with polycycstic overies, but that had nothing to do with being on birth control. ask your OB-GYN they will let you know when you are good to go...

My sister got pregnant WHILE on birthcontrol... so you see it can happen when ever how ever.
