Are Hondas & Toyotas still superior to domestic cars?

Just wondering...used domestics are so much cheaper.

Used domestics are so cheap because up until about 5 years ago they were not so great. The new ones are considerably better, and people are trading off their old ones to get into the new ones, especially with all the low interest and rebates that the domestics have been giving out lately. Thus, the market is flooded with used cars, and the demand is not there to keep up with it, so they are sold very cheaply.

Generally, yes. They do carry a premium, as you note, because of there reputation for high quality and reliability. That doesn't mean every single car is perfect ... there are individual lemons in every car line. But Honda and Toyota have statistically fewer - and sometimes far fewer - than US manufacturers. There are some decent incentives now for US cars, but if you like to keep your car for at least 8 years like I do, you are better off in the long run going with Honda or Toyota, even if you pay more at the sale.

For reliability, heck yes. Of course, this doesn't include lemons or cars that haven't been kept well, but on the whole both brands take a lot of abuse and keep coming.

And in terms of used market value, Hondas and Toyotas hold their value better than almost any used car.

They were not and never will be superior. They hold value better because people have the false understanding all imports will last 300,000 miles. The truth is they are better on gas with there low power small engines. Even when gas was cheap no one wanted to spend all their money on gas.
