It's a security issue. In a network, the administrator decides how soon a password expires, if ever. The longer a password is valid, the more likely it is to be hacked, stolen or discovered. Changing passwords frequently makes it more difficult for an intruder to access your company's data.
Some companies aren't as concerned with this security issue. Some never require your password to change.

it's an added security feature. The theory being that it makes a would be hacker try to hit a "moving" target since the password changes all the time.

Because your friend set up her account that dont expire in a shorter time. But I bet she have put her password in once a day.

If it expires right away it has to do with your computer's cookies. I think you should contact YAHOO! or click the help button on mail and try to figure it out .
