I agree with you. Jonathan Larson was ahead of his time! And with his magnum opus, Rent, which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and won four Tony Awards, he won the respect he deserved as a virtuoso composer and lyricist.

If you have not seen Evita, you should see Michael Grandage’s revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s hit 1978 musical at the West End’s Adelphi Theatre. Argentine actress Elena Roger as Evita alongside Philip Quast as Juan Peron and Matt Rawle as narrator Che Guevara, opened 21 June 2006 with a standing ovation from a star-studded audience.

Dance of the Vampires with Michael Crawford was definitely my all time favorite. Unfortunately, the critics killed it early on because they were expecting a reprise of Mr. Crawford's acting and singing ability in the The Phantom of the Opera, the all time fave of mine. The critics stated it (DoV) was schlocky and it was but it was supposed be. After all it was based on Roman Polanski's 1960's movie, "Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck". Seriously thinking about it, the talent behind the entire show was phenomenal and the music by Jim Steinman (the true lyricist behind Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell I & II) it was a great production! All in all most shows are phenomenal from start to finish and I've seen several and loved them all including Beauty and the Beast, Aida, Rent, Cats, Phantom, DoV, Dracula and Miss Saigon.

My favorite current Broadway musical is Wicked. Totally and completely amazing! It's about the real story about the witches from the Wizard of Oz. It was the best one I have ever saw and I have seen three. If you have the chance to see it, you definatly should! I love it!

Worst thing...RENT for many many reasons in my mind. RENT is NOT an opera, yes it is LOOSELY based on La Boheme, but I HATE people who think they like/sing opera because they sing songs from Rent. BARFFF. I'm going to get burned for saying that but I really don't care.

The best show THIS season definitely is Drowsy Chaperone and Jersey Boys.

Why would anyone say that RENT is an opera?
Clearly, it's not.
Who has said that?

I personally love RENT. It's my favorite now....
I used to like "Phantom of the opera" and then I got bored with it so I switched to RENT. But I also like alot of the musicals now.. =)
