LIGHT THE FUSE
DE-DE-DE

Bottle rockets are easy. As it says in the name, they can be fired out of a bottle (empty, of course). You light the fuse (I prefer one of those long-necked fireplace lighters - keeps sensitive fingers away from the fuse when it lights) and get away. I *have* seen bottle rockets detonate without ever lifting off.

Skyrockets are different. You need something a bit beefier to hold them. You can use a length of angle iron, one end stuck into the ground, resting on a sawhorse of something to give it a slight angle (otherwise you run the risk of the rocket tipping out of the grove at a most innopportune moment). Me, I built a custom firing launcher out of a piece of 1 1/4" electrical conduit, a couple of plumbing parts, and a large x-shaped stand made of 2x4s. It was a bit of overkill, but that sucker won't tip over no matter what you shoot out of it. :)

I've also included some links to other ideas. Enjoy!

bottle rockets, get an empty beer bottle, fill it half way with water, set it firmly upright in the ground (maybe bury the bottom 2-3 inches) put the stick end of the bottle rocket in the water and light the fuse. Stand back!

some brands are louder than others. I have had bottle rockets that were VERY loud, much louder than cap guns. But some of them just have a lame pop. if you play with bottle rockets inside, that's a bad idea. It would definitely be loud inside, because there's nowhere for the sound to go. It would be loud. Also, the smell of gun powder would stink up your house for hours. It's not safe because of fire hazard too.

with fire, and a launching tube/holder (bout 6 feet of 1inch pvc work great for aiming the rockets, but a beer bottle works dandy
