I'm 6 months pregnant, and I have been getting these tightening and really painful pains that shoot through the lower part of my stomach all the way through my lower back. It usually lasts about 2-4 minutes at the most. I had the first one even before I knew I was pregnant, and I get them every now and then...maybe 3 or 4 times a month. They are really uncomfortable and make me feel like I'm going to throw up (and sometimes I do). Does anyone know what these pains are?

I have a doctors appointment in a week, but I was curious if anyone knew, thanks :)

Okay, that sounds like one of two things, considering you have had them from the beginning:

1. Possibly just the stretching of the ligaments and tendons around your uterus, as it gets heavier with the growing baby. This also puts strain on your lower back as it pulls forward on your spine, and puts your posture off balance. A good remedy for this is a Pregnancy Belt.

2. You could be having Braxton Hix (false labor) contractions. They are sort of like practice contractions for your body.

Either way, make sure you let your DR know so that you can be certain not to miss any important warning signs if there is more to it. Good Luck and Congratulations!

Glad you have a doctor's appointment. The pain may mean you are "carrying low" and need more support for your back. There are girdles for that and you can also try more supportive shoes and/or inserts for your shoes and stay off your feet as much as you can. You might also be experiencing slight labor which could mean premature birth. CALL YOUR DOCTOR! He can see you before your appointment or he may ask you to go to the emergency room for evaluation...DO IT!

Could be several things:

* Braxton Hicks contractions (practice contractions)

*Your baby laying in a way that makes your nerves/muscles react

*Ligament stretching as the baby grows and moves.

*Something unrelated to pregnancy that just seems worse because of carrying extra weight

It never hurts to call the doctor and ask.

sounds like you've got braxton-hicks back labor! Sorry, that's gotta be miserable. Try getting on your hands & Knees, & then lower your shoulders to the floor/bed. Have someone give counter pressure on the spots that hurt.
Good luck!

Sciatic nerve pain (bad spelling) is common with pregnant women, try using more pillows when you sleep, like when you lay on your back, put one under your knees, if you sleep on your side, put one between your knees. It helps align the hips. Good luck.
