Global warming is the observed increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and oceans in recent decades. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/global%20warming ). It is mostly man-made and comes from everything from factories to cars. (http://www.epa.gov/ebtpages/airairpoglobalwarming.html )Almost every single real scientific study links global warming directly to humans.

It's only certain political figures that don't want to change for reasons easily guessable. That is why the whole developed world signed that Kyoto Treaty and why every single developed country is working to reduce their polluting of the air, water, and land.

See the new Gore movie, it has the backing of the scientific AND POLITICAL groups:

Scientific community: http://www.usatoday.com/tech/science/200...

Government Groups:

NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration) on why Peer-Reviewed Journals are the only real scientific studies to be believed: http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/globalwar...

The EPA's site for KIDS: http://www.epa.gov/globalwarming/kids/in...

From NASA:
http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/library...

The Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Program is an important part of the U.S. Department of Energy's strategy to understand global climate change:

All of the above are .gov sites.

Edit:

Notice how the person below me offers no evidence what-so-ever. That is exactly what is holding us back in taking real steps in fixing this very easily fixable problem. All people like this due is try to poke holes in something that is already rock-solid in ALL REAL SCIENTIFIC (GOVERNMENT) COMMUNITIES. Hollywood, Gore, or anyone else who has made this up. It is our own government organizations, working separately, that have all come to the same conclusion. The people who don't believe offer nothing but opinions and fake studies done by non-governmental - or none-peer reviews - organizations.

It is a real problem that can be fixed with easy measures.

As a scientist, I can tell you there will never be proof until long after the fact. It is not something that can be proven. However, much of the data suggests that there is global warming. What people can dispute is the interpretation of such data and also the modelling and they should, that is good science. When the vast majority of climatologist believe it is real, we should probably listen.

BTW just because a few scientists don't believe it, does not mean it is not scientifically valid. If you try hard enough you can find scientists that don't believe in quantum mechanics or relativity...or even that the earth is round. They even have their own conspiracy theories. There are always a few oddballs around. Do you want to believe the respected people in the field or the nutcases? Typically when something like this is brought up people will say that nobody believed Einstein either and called him crazy. For every Einstein, there are 1000 wackos who are wrong.

Global warming as it is talked about now is a belief that human activity is artificially raising the average temperature of the world through all sorts of pollutants that the earth can't deal with.

Standards of proof are hard to come by because so many non-scientists (Al Gore & Hollywood actors) have taken up the cause as an alarmist reaction. Climatologists are actually quite diverse in their opinions. 17,000 signed a petition against the Kyoto Accords because they believe the evidence shows a natural warming trend. You have to determine what you believe solely on evidence and without the people screaming at you from either side. Here's something to consider: We are about 500 years overdue for the beginning of an ice age. Right before one starts, the global temperatures rise before falling. We might want to encourage Global Warming to keep an ice age from happening at all!

There is tons of proof that global warming is very real. The polar ice caps and icebergs are melting, snow caps on mountains are gone and also the hurricanes have been linked to global warming. the shorelines on coastal cities are rising, distroying many homes. so far the tempertature has gone up 2 degrees, that may not seem like much, but its doing TONS of damage. all of this is caused by the carbon dioxide we are putting into the air, so far the world has managed to dump billions of tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, like a garbage disposal! all this carbon dioxide gets trapped in the atmosphere, causing it to heat up. trees such up this carbon dioxide and turn in back into oxygen, but with all the rainforest being cut down, and the massive amount of carbon, they simply cannot keep up. at the rate we are going, within 50 years the temperature will be unlivable for human beings.

it is the supposed increase of temperatures by greenhouse gasses and eating of the ozone.

there is no proof of global warming yes the overal temp has risen 2 degrees; 1500 years ago it rose like 2 again. was that carbon dioxides fault?

Look at how many people had skin cancer 50 years ago compared to how many today. How many catastrophic natural disasters have we had in the past few years? Compared to years past? The earth is the only planet we can live on.. is it worth second guessing so you can drive a ****** SUV that you don't use because you live in the suburbs? The planet is dying if you really wanted to know the answer is right outside your door. Its in the news covered with numbers and casualties. Its in your lungs when you stand behind a car. And its in your head because you asked the question. Quit lying to yourself

Let's just say that since man has been around the weather has changed dramatically. They've cored ice to prove that over millions of years specific patterns existed in the weather/environment. Those patterns have been dramatically changed/disrupted in the last 100 years. Scientifically proven fact that our technologies are altering environment in ways we've yet to understand and it is that lack of understanding that is causing a reluctance to act upon the PROVEN data.

"Global warming" is part of the NATURAL weather cycles this planet has just like the Ice Ages we have every 10-12 thousand years.
