They were forced to do a finale after the viewers severly plummeted when they had to move it from the sunday night line up. It got five seasons so they said "What the hell!" and threw a big finale.
Malcom in the Middle was never stupid.

Well...I liked it. But the actors were getting a little old to be doing it any longer. How long can Frankie Muniz play a guy in high school?

I love that show!
I think it was because Frankie and his TV mom were trying to break out and do other things and didn't want to commit to the show.
I'm bummed.
