NO, you do NOT need a passport to enter the Bahamas. You need a RAISED SEAL Birth Certificate and a Photo I.D. such as a Drivers License OR your may choose to use a passport, but it is not mandatory. After December 31, 2006 though, you'll need a passport to get back into the US.

Wrong again. This question has been asked at least 10 times now. You DO need a valid passport. I just came back from the Bahamas. Do you know how many people were not allowed to go thru Customs at the Freeport Airport? 13 on my plane. Guess what they had? They had unreliable information from uninformed as*holes like the previous poster and only a birth certificate. Get a passport!

You can use a birth certificate until December, but I highly suggest a passport. Went to the Bahamas in April with my boyfriend and best friend. My best friend had a b.c. but it wasn't a government issued b.c, just a hospital issued one. Left from Newark found out in Miami she wouldntbe allowed to clear customs and she had to get a same day passport in downtown Miami for a small fortune...honestly it would just be easier to get a passport and save the hassle.
