You could say what is the purpose of anything, it actually opens up a massive talking point, because literally everyone has their own perverseness. Also if there was literally 'a purpose of life' where does that put us, if you achieve the purpose when perhaps you are 6years old or 50 then what? The question goes on forever. The only purpose is your purpose and that should be the only thing that matters. We all adapt and if we can't we try, those who don't perhaps have missed the point of knowing how to or refusing to because maybe they think there is much more than there really is. Once again truthfully who knows?? A bit of a question and answer yourself to see what you come up with. Cheers.

Why does life have to have a purpose? We *do* certain things by nature (eat, sleep, procreate, build monuments to ourselves, immerse ourselves in social activities and build communities with our contributions, etc.), but those things don't therefore become our *purpose*.
My life certainly doesn't have a purpose, and I'm quite content with that. I'm enjoying the ride, and one day the ride will come to an end. And that's that.

I guess it's different for everyone, but I believe the purpose of my life, what keeps me going are my loved ones. Without them I don't think I'd have a purpose.

Look at life all around you. What is happening?
Every living thing is doing four basic things: eat, sleep, mate and defend - and this is confirmed by 99% of answers you have received.
Look at life around you from another angle - all life is born, and all life experiences disease, all life gets older and then dies.
If there isn't anything else to life, i.e. life as we know it happened by chance and this is all there is then there is really no purpose to existence. You wouldn't even consider leaving a nicer place for your future generations since somebody else could come along and nuke everything.
If you, like 99% of the people here, and anywhere else for that matter thinks that this is all there is to life then carry on.
The Hindu scriptures inform us that we have been put into this material creation/universe to see for ourselves whether we can be happy in separation from God. This material universe is like a giant virtual reality game (or Holodeck for star trek fans) and it basically fools us into thinking whatever we want to think. Of course at this point it should be pointed out that there are millions of other entities who are also part of the equation and therefore you may not get exactly what you were hoping for.
The scriptures inform us that we are eternal spirit souls and thus do not actually die. The bad part is that we simply get another body at the time of our death to continue with our experimentation. Of course, we could spend endless lifetimes trying to experiment in so many different ways.
Some will stop, occassionally, and question what is going on and will try to find an answer but if they are not wholly committed to finding this answer and proving for themselves whether it is true then the game simply continues - you continue to take birth as something else and die and so on. The scriptures inform us that we carry forward our consciousness from the time of death.
The real turning point comes when one is ready to examine every part of ones life and try to change it. This process is otherwise known as giving up personal selfishness, giving up the false ego, giving up the mentality of always trying to satisfy oneself. Then the change starts to happen and not before.
Of course the laws of birth and re-incarnation are quite complex and not like some media people portray them to be.
If you are ready to expand your thinking and try to understand the real purpose of life then check out:

I found that the teachings of of Buddha help me to discover for myself what the purpose of life is for me and that it is up to the individual. I would hope that the purpose of life for everyone is to live a life that respects life and that isn't selfish and that we as humans help one another.

The purpose of life in my opinion is to use ones gifts and talents to serve your social stimulus situation (ie. the world that you interact with). Many religions have similarities and relations pointing to the fact that we need to develop our full potential and use it for the good of positive life on earth. In addition shortness in the physical world is noted in many religions where it is stressed that our actions here are to prepare us for our future (be it in heaven, our next life or where our spirit resides). In other words we need to leave things better for having been here and not neglect the gifts given to us.

Oh this is a long story, let me know if it makes sense to you....ok adam and eve ate the apples right?...well I think life is a bigger plan of the flood. Each and every life you live you go through different things to make your soul stronger, older, eventually to be exactly what God wanted us to be when he made adam and eve. Like the expression live and learn. You cant just be told something is bad for you you have to experience it to learn that its bad for you. So eventually and god only knows when we will all be like what God intended for adam and eve. Makes sense to me.

depends on the person....each life has its own purpose- i.e. doctor are here to assist in people's health, musicians are here to add meaning to words and make people happy, homeless people are to show what happens when your life goes down the drain, scientists are here to discover....i think the purpose in life is just to be who you are, no matter what people say.
