Where i work they are telling me that we are only allowed a 5 min break per work shift and that is anywhere from 4 hours to 9 hours a day. Is there truth to this or are they wanting to save money by working us without breaks?

That's a lie. It is supposed to be 15 minutes for every 4 hours worked. If you work 8 hours, you are also to receive a 30 minute lunch break.

Illinois law has no requirement for breaks. It requires a 20 minute meal period for shifts greater than 7.5 hours, which are to come no later than 5 hours into the shift.

Instead of worrying about how much time "I get", why not concern yourself with doing a good job?
