Honestly, the safest mosquito repellant is garlic. If you really like it, you can eat a ton of the stuff, but I used garlic on one of my kids who was really popular with mosquitoes. It was *incredible*--100% effective for 48 hours. And everyone I have recommended it to has agreed. Garlic is even used in professional mosquito repellants for lawn care.
Take a pinch of powdered garlic between your thumb and first finger. Run your closed fingers under the tap quickly, then make a paste out of the garlic. Put the paste on your forehead if you have no bites; put a little on the bites if you have it. (It will also help heal them.)
The garlic smells for a few minutes until it dries, then you can't detect it--but the bugs can!! I used it every night on my son. If I missed one night, he was still okay. If I forgot 2 in a row, he'd be all bitten up again...

Yes, ASK YOUR DOCTOR!
Some people have sensitivity to DEET, a chemical in many repellents. Some do not. DEET may affect a fetus or small children and there are plenty of Deet free products out there.
But you are getting prenatal care, right? If not, DO SO IMMEDIATELY. Keep a small notebook and write down any questions you have like this between prenatal visits. Your ob/gyn knows your condition and history better than anyone else, so ASK him or her to be safe and get accurate information.

Consider Citronella candles. At least you do not have to apply it on your body.
