I recently read an article about MySpace and some people who were filing a lawsuit against MySpace, because a 14 year old, who had lied about her age, had met a 19 year old, who had lied about his age, and they had had sex. The parents of the girl are filing for $3 million in damages. Is this fair? Is this right? What do you think?

I personally feel that MySpace has a responsibility, and there needs to be something in place to protect minors, but Im not sure what, or how, especially since we cannot stop people lying..

What do you think???

You're right, but there is no way we can stop this, even here we can lie about our age, we can contact people either way, I hope someone find the solution for this, is very sad and more when you have kids involve in this. Parents should be more care full with their kids that's the best solution.

I have looked at MySpace because my 16 yr. old son gets on there and no I do not think it is safe. Some of the things that are said on there are really bad. I know it is hard for a site like that to limit what is said and who says it, but there has to be a way. I don't know if I would sue anyone, but I shut my son down after the things I was reading on there not only by others but by my own kid. Kids these days have no respect and they say things that I never would at that age.

There is something in place to protect minors. However, as you can see, minors will try and get away with stuff. This so called minors who LIED should be responsible as well as THE PARENTS. Myspace should not be responsible for two people meeting. They could have done it over the phone, another website, even yahoo answers. So, there.

While I agree with you in theory, MySpace did nothing wrong in the instance you described. No one made that girl lie about her age. She did that all on her own. Unless a claim of rape and/or kidnapping was filed, everything she did was of her own volition. Is myspace safe? That is up to the parents and how closely they watch their kids when they are online. It also depends on how well you raise your kids. In this instance, the girl is being taught that it is ok to lie if you can blame someone else. Instead of computerized protection I think we just need better parenting!

99% percent of the blame should be put on the parents, it is their kids, their home, their computer, their job to teach morals, values, respect for oneself to their kids, yes myspace needs more ways to protect minors, but really they have done about all they can, a lot of places on the internet are not safe. You can't cast blame to others and expect them to pay for what is your mistake!

Myspace is whatever the person makes it out to be. It's not the website's fault for anything.. it's the people who are abusing it.

I think it is the parents fault for not being nosey like they should! If they would have checked up on it they would have known and would have been able to beat that kid before she met him! People love to blame things to cover up thier bad parenting!

It's safe if you use common sense and don't give out your information.

Kids lie about their age to get on all kinds of websites, there's not much they can do even if they don't separate minors from adults, peopel will still get around it.
