I had signed into messenger, a short while later messenger signed off automatically and had a message that it did so because I had signed on using a deifferent device, when in reality I had not. What is the possible reasons for this occurring?

I have a theory about it, since it has happened to me too and it took me a while before I figured it out.

You once, in the past used messenger on another computer, and on that computer you told it to remember your ID and password and probably also the messenger had the automatic sign in feature on.
So someone went on that computer, turned it on etc..., and messenger automatically launched signing in with your ID and password while you were already signed in on another computer, when that happens it just cancels the previous session thus signing you out.....

If you can't remember which computer you went on lately just change your password and that way even when messenger will launch on that other computer with ur ID and password it wont be able to sign in because the password will no longer be correct... (that's what I did before I found out which computer I had left my ID and password on... but that's only my story...)

If the device is telling you that you're signed in on yet another gadget or inspite of, that is that someone has signed in below your call; which may propose they have your password. i'd strongly propose that you modify your passord or maybe extra efficient yet, replace your secret question & answer. That way, the man is purely no longer waiting to get admission on your ideas until eventually they alter into conscious of the hot question and answer. this is said as safe practices.

First you change your password. No doubt someone knows your password. It can happen coz while you are using someone is login with your id and password,at that time first sign in by you will automatically sign out..

you might be using it from behind a proxy and the proxy might have caused a 'reconnect' and since the messenger was not signed out, it would have read the reconnect signal and displayed that someone else had signed in / or on a different device. thanks.

You need to change your pass word because someone may have figured out ur current one and is using ur account.
some may boot u off if u are idle for too long.
