Its your party, you can do whatever you want. As long as everyone who is drinking is on legal age. There's no price list or any evidence that you are selling it. Its not like you open up a club or something. Its like you required everyone you invited to bring a can of beer as a donation to the party. But since you know most of them couldn't be bother going to the store before the party, you buy the beer for them first then they just paying you back for it. I would look at it that way.

Regardless if everyone is 21, you can get charged with running an illegal tavern because a) you dont have a liquor license and b) you dont have a business license.
I have seen it happen, it is expensive for the owner of the house.
Just a tip, when you collect the money, tell people that if the cops come, tell them not to mention they paid for there beer, liquor, etc. Also, after collecting your money (im assuming you'll have a bunch of 5 dollar bills in your pocket) put it away so that if the cops come, they dont have causation to believe you are SELLING the alchohol. Selling the alchohol is what makes it illegal.
Good luck, have fun!

â¥im in a law class at school and I think u could get in trouble for it becuz of charging the people that come for the alcohol.... but as long as nobody says anything and no police show up you really should have anything to worry about I know ppl who do that all the time! You'll probably have more trouble getting ppl to pay then you will with charging them.... to be on the safe side I would just have everyone bring their own alcohol :Dâ¥

You can get in trouble becuase your not an established business and do not have a liquor license. Just dont get caught.
From experience you should sell the cups for $6 at the door and if they dont want to buy a cup $5

I don't think so, its a private party and everyone is making a contribution to the booze. That's no big deal. Thats good everyone is over 21 because if not then thats trouble.

As a state trooper I can tell you that that is considered a class B misdemeanor. It will change into a felony if you serve anyone under the age of 18. This type of party is called a rave and it usually does bring the police especially if someone has a big mouth and tells others. eventually it gets back to the police.

I think most guests would consider it rude to be told they have to pay to attend a party that you invited them to. If you are concerned with the cost of booze for your guests, then have your party the old way, BYOB (bring your own booze).

Try voluntary $5 donation. It sounds to me like you are selling liquor without a license.

i don't know if there would be any law broken. i think if you charge a $5 cover charge to everyone, even those who don't drink, there should be no problem. you wouldn't be charging for the booze.

To be on the safe side, you should word it as a five dollar donation to go to the cost of the party.
